Ms Xpose 2011
Posted by minicoopergrl on September 1, 2010 at 5:17 pmYep, its that time again. I signed up last night and im doing what I do best – all 3 catagories. One hand im excited and hope I get to advance to the finals this year and then the other side of my brain thinks ive got no shot in hell. Im still going to compete for the fun part of it. Its a healthy competition between other pole friends and I.
I picked out the music and started playing w/the songs. Im kinda hitting a wall when it comes to costumes but I got 5 mos right?
My music is:
Floor/Chair – Holla Till You Pass Out 3OH!3
Pole Princess – Sound of Madness Shinedown
Pole Diva – 3 Libras APCWish me luck! Ill be posting my updates on my blog.

Well, its over and I lost again. I tried not to look too shook up over it but it just plain sucks. This was my 3rd time entering and I didnt advance to the finals. Im facing the same condundrum I did last year, if everyone likes my routines – they why didnt I win? (for those who dont know, its based on judges scoring – not by the crowd) I show my husband one of the routines I lost too, he said 'you lost to that? yours was much better.' After some crying, screaming, throwing things and eating some Chipotle, im over it now. Im debating on going for it in 2012, Ive got time to think about that 🙂
Here are the videos –

I'm sorry the competition didn't go as you hope Lulu 🙁
I think you should keep trying! Never give up on yourself. I feel like these competitions push people to surpass what they thought they could achieve. We've all seen you grow so much as a dancer.
That chair routine was off the hook. I love it so much!!!!!!! No matter what be proud of yourslef – you got out there 3 times with different Lulu's – that's amazing! It was great to see the different sides of your personality and you really do bring it when you perform!

oh my! you have sooo much attitude and confidence in your performances, i love it!! you're a natural performer and because of that I'm jealous lol don't get down that you didn't win, just keep doing what you do because you're great at it 🙂 my favourite was the pole diva video

I haven’t had a chance to watch all 3 but I thought your floor/chair routine was fantastic, especially those booty pops! If you’re feeling disillusioned with comps, are there many opportunities to get involved in burlesque/pole shows instead? You get the benefits of sharing your awesomeosity (of course that’s a word;p) with a crowd who clearly loves you having to worry about all that other stuff

Mini…Do they list what they actually base their judging on? Maybe you could talk to the judges to try to get some feedback regarding your routines to see what they are looking for or what you can work on for the next competition. Sassafrassle had a great idea with doing some showcases or performances…you get the fun and experience without the stress of competing against someone. Also I'm sure you know this but work on your personal best – make each dance a win for you and try not to get too discouraged by a loss in a competition 🙂

I think they were fantastic routines, you are so expressive with your dancing. What were the specifications for what the routines should be?
I prefer non competative dance 😉

The first year Ms Xpose was introduced, we got a list of how were scored. We were scored on our crowd, costumes (which was like 5pts), execuction, flow etc. The past 2yrs ive done it, I never got to see the score card, so I assumed it was the same. I did ask if I could have the judges notes from my perfomances and go from there. I have a feeling that they want to see more trick combos. I havent heard anything yet but if I stop by tonight I will find out.
Dont get me wrong, Im damn proud of those routines. I had been working on that floor/chair one since last summer! I had to take alot of time away from praticing so I could focus on the Battle. And im happy for those who did win, Im making plans to go to the finals to cheer them on. The competitive side of me has been there my whole life, im a former NCA All-Star Cheerleader. I praticed 2 days a week and had a competitions every weekend for months on end.
I kinda beat myself up for it simply b/c I have a full time job, 2 kids and thier activiites and my time gets very limited to practice. Plus with my pole being at my moms, its not like I can get up and practice when the mood strikes. ( I just had to go and tell one child its not nice tattle and my other one had a saftey pin in his mouth, all within 30 sec!) Now with not having any real routines to work on, I think im going to work on list of moves I want to nail and just go from there.
I would love to do a burlesque/pole showcase. There isnt one around here, unless its an instructor showcase and I dont teach (Yet! my personal goal is to win a competition before I started teaching, but I may have to break that goal and go out on my own!) Theres alot of talent in the area I live in, and I had a thought about putting together a showcase. But I was still doing the Battle stuff and wanted to focus on Ms Xpose before I put all my effort into a new project. Im going to Ms Tri-State as a volunteer, so I may check out the venue and get some thoughts out of it. I wanna keep the showcase in DC due to the amount of talent that is right there.
Pole Diva was my personal favorite. That song is very special to me. Its my husbands favorite song and its got alot of meaning to him, I wanted to make him proud. I just felt that song everytime I heard it – sometimes id cry just practicing it! I had so much fun with my floor/chair. Im a big fan of 3OH!3 and I love how its so tounge-in-chic, hence the Tight End bottoms! Im all about showing my range of music styles as well, which is why I went that route this year.

I loved your Three Libras piece – that's one of my favorite songs too and you could really tell you were feeling it. You move beautifully – keep it up!
