I am a beginner poler, and I bought my Lil Mynx static stainless steel pole about 4 months ago. When I first started using it I was very confused because it seemed like I had regressed- there were things I could do in class that I couldn’t do on my pole at home. Then I did the research and realized that stainless steel is naturally slippery, particularly the Lil Mynx poles.

Anyway, I took some people’s advice and use 90% alcohol to clean it and microfiber cloth. Both of these things help but only for a very short amount of time. I would never be able to get through a 3 minute routine involving any climbing without the pole getting too slippery to use safely!

What else can I do? I live in Los Angeles and it is very hot right now, so the pole isn’t too cold. . . Is there any way to fix the slipperyness? It’s so hard to learn new moves this way! Thanks!!

    Some options:

    1) lightly sand it with sandpaper

    2) get it powder coated

     3) spray paint it

    4) Get a different pole.

I poled on a SS LM a few months ago and it was so slippery, I agree with you!

I have a SS Lil Mynx. If I would have known how slippery it was going to be, I would have never purchased it. 🙁  I have tried most everything. Windex, vinegar, soap and water. The only thing that really seems to help is to coat it in wax. I just roll a fat candle over it. It gives it more grip. I want to buy an X-pole to replace it when I get some extra money. Sanding it is another option.

Firstly, it takes stainless a while to become conditioned, so keep playing on it. Secondly, slather on some corn huskers lotion on your body to add grip, mighty grip can make your hands stickier. Make sure you body I’d also really warm and tacky.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I will definitely try the wax.

I sandpapered my pole lightly and for the last two practices i have not used any alcohol on it at all. Strangely enough, this seems to be helping a lot. Is it possible I was overcleaning? For now I think I’m going to try cleaning after every practice as opposed to before and only cleaning sparingly while I’m actually using the pole.

This is going to sound counterintuitive, but make sure to use lotion on your skin regularly. Of course, you don't want to apply lotion right before a pole session or else you will make it worse. But your skin needs to be properly moisturized in order to be sticky for the pole.

I had a lot of problems sticking to my chrome X-pole (which is similar to stainless) and I was ready to give up. I took some time off from poling, and I put on a lot of lotion in the meantime. Now I stick really well!

The trick is to use the really cheap water-based lotion (the kind that comes in the economy sized bottle and doesn't cost much.) Read the label and make sure the first ingredient is water (aqua.) The fancier lotions are often petroleum based or contain cocoa butter, which is really slick. Water based lotions don't feel quite as hydrating on the skin, but they're better for pole.

@aetzkorn149253 – Your X-Pole Sport will most likely be chrome coated.  I would not suggest sanding chrome.  Look at some of the other suggestions, perhaps the most important is that your body is properly moisturized to start with.
