Hello all! I have been poling for a year or so and I would say I am at an advanced level, still perfecting some of the advanced moves. Anyway, I am a pole instructor at a studio and we are holding our 2 year anniversary celebration Sept 24th. The theme is a sexy carnival!! We will have stilts walkers, jugglers, fire dancers, cage dancers, cotton candy and popcorn! It will be so fun! I will be performing at it and my character idea is , twisted , evil or a devil like creature. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_twisted.gif
The song is "Feeling Good" by the Muse.
I do not have a dancer back ground but have learned a lot with pole. I need some help bouncing ideas off you guys, for moves, filler moves, and costume ideas! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_question.gif
I will have 2 poles on stage, one stationary and one spinning pole to use.
Or if you have seen any cool videos that may help me with ideas or building this character, that would be awesome!!

I have also been asked to perform it at a "Heaven and Hell" Halloween celebration at a club!

    Thanks everyone!

I would do alot of WOW moves – holds, inverts etc. The theme is circus and they are all about shocking the viewers. If you have a move none of the students have seen from you I would do it then.

You could always dress like a ringleader for it too.

Thanks minicoopergrl! Yes, lots of wow moves for sure. I cant do ring leader because the studio owner will be going as ring leader. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
I will have to see if there are some halloween themed pole videos out there and get some inspiration!

    Thanks again! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

HOW FUN! I loooove anything carnival/circus related! As far as choreography goes, I would focus on slow and controlled movements. With looots of piercing eye contact! With many many performances you wont really see alot of eye contact from the performer to the audience. If you, "the devil" are looking into your audiences eyes, their jaws will surely be on the floor…it just adds a whole ‘nother level of intimacy. Creeepyyyy and hottttt =)

Makeup and costume….hmm well dont paint your face red but DO have dark smokey eyes and red hot lips, maybe even solid glitter lips! for costume im seeing lots of red sequins/red feathers/red beads/red rhinestones, black fishnets, and boots maybe?

    =] hope i helped a little
    Good Luck!!!

I recently performed for the first time and I have never been much of a choreo person so it was a little difficult at first to get a routine together. My best advice would be to put the song on repeat and just let the music move you… when you think you hit on something good, write it down! It also helps to write down a couple combos/sequences that you know you want to perform and fit them into the song where you think they would be best placed. As you practice more, you will be able to fill up the spaces inbetween with transitions as you get more and more comfortable. Also, it probably wouldn’t hurt to watch some actual circus performance videos… may you get some ideas for movement patterns that you can incorporate into your routine! Good luck with the event!! It sounds like it is going to be badasss! I hope to see it on video. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Thank you so much for the ideas! I wasnt feeling to inspirational by that song choice and wanted to go darker, so instead Im doing "Beautiful People" by Marilyn Manson. Much more dark!

I really loved the costume idea you had Voodoochild! Red and black fishnets and boots! Sequins! Love it!
Anyone know if its possible to dance in a corset? I would have something underneath to protect from any wardrobe malfunctions, https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif , but as far as the stiffness and movement go? Seems a little tough but it would be so hot! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

yes I have danced in a corset its not easy….it really limits your ability to invert and bend and even more important breath!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif I have however started off wearing one then took it off when I was ready to get down to the more difficult moves, it also gives you a chance to catch your breath while you take it off. If you go with the corset find one that only has a few hooks so it doesn’t take too long to undo it. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
