If you are trying to be a dancer practice on flow and floor work and being slinky. Have a few moves that you can do well and don’t worry about the rest. Difficult moves will make you tired and sweaty….not really what you need if you are dancing.
As for speed of learning, everyone is different. I was into fitness for quite some time before getting started so many of the moves came easy because I already had the strength. I do not have a dance background so some of the transitions have been slow learning. I also am not very flexible so some of the moves are not even possible.
I would suggest finding a bar that has poles so that you can get used to performing. It is MUCH different than doing stuff in your house.

I agree with Chem, I find my progress to be rather slow, personally. I don’t dance as often as I’d like, but if you’re looking to perform, then you don’t want to be rushing into doing all the moves…the best performances I’ve seen are a few tricks, but with flow, slowness, and control.
I’ve been active for parts of my life, but not something that would help me with the pole. I apparently use my body differently than most, and horseback riding for 3 years has resulted in some very unfortunate knee problems. To that end, I learn these moves very slowly, transitions and certain things I need to do slowly, over and over, as well as trying to make sure I don’t injure myself by thinking I’m strong enough, and finding certain support muscles that just can’t handle it. After a couple of years of on-again-off-again dancing, I’ve never once inverted.
And yes, performing is very different from living-room dancing. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif -
I think it depends on your background and your strength level. you sound super determined which is fantastic!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif how do you like veena’s lessons? aren’t they incredible!! i’ve learned so many great moves from her lessons. in my case, i had and still have lmited strength so pole moves are harder for me to get since im a weakling. on the other hand, ive been learning exotic dancing for like 3 years now, so transitions and floor moves, even chair moves are my thing. you’ll find your groove though, just don’t push yourself too far that you’ll get an injury https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif happy poling hunny!!!

I agree with Sascha! I say for now, work on transitions like the hip rolls or leg show and then get 2 or 3 tricks down solidly to start with. Everything depends on your background, like previous dance, gymnastics or figure skating experience, all of which will really help! Veena’s lessons are outstanding–very precise, everything’s viewed from all angles so you can’t go far wrong!
I also highly recommend Poleskivvies blog. She’s danced professionally for years and she’ll even do consulting with you! Here’s her blog:
and then scroll down to "The Role of the Audience."
Connecting with your audience as a dancer, (regardless of what type of dance you’re doing) is job #1 which will translate to lap dances which=$$$$$!!! Most of all, have FUN!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_jokercolor.gif

Thank you ladies, my strength level is not high at all since I RARELY workout, but i do have background in ice skating which i did for a few years as well as gymnastics although my flexibility could use some work. Before I started the lessons I have been doing strength training so I wouldnt look like a total fool on the pole. But it has only been week one and i have mastered about 5 moves (beginner moves) which I am content with. I realized that I cant practice everyday since Im usually sore the next day, but my muscles are adjusting and I am becoming stronger which I am excited about. I love the lessons on here they are so easy to follow, great instruction!! And yes I plan to go to a studio in December to use their poles and get used to performing cause I know I will definitely be nervous once I actually go for the job. I am getting a video camera as well so I can watch my progress as well as put the vids up here and maybe I can get some feedback! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif thanks for the replies babes happy poling!!
