    Welcome to your addiction! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

The answers vary from person to person, some of course learn more quicky than others.

The important thing to remember however is that you must not rush through learning the moves. You are best off learning a few moves and perfecting them as much as possible rather than learning a whole bunch of moves too quickly.

If you can do a few moves REALLY well you will look better than someone who does a whole bunch of moves just "so -so"

You mentioned you wanted to become a "dancer" – do you mean and exotic dancer in a strip club? If so, while above still applies the moves you would want to learn early on may be different than what a student pole dancer would learn. You do not make a lot of money while you’re hanging on the pole – dancing close to the customers and lap dancing is where you will make more money so you don’t need a lot of pole work to be successful at your job.

It’s best to go to an instructor who works specifically with exotic dancers and in my case, I prefer to give private lessons rather than teach dancers within our group classes where they learn at a different pace and learn a lot of moves the exotic dancer wouldn’t be as interested in.

When you’re on the pole in a club, your goal is to attract attention – draw them up to the stage or make sure they notice you so that they want to get a lap dance from you, but not spend too much time up on the pole.

There are exceptions – like having other pole dance students who visit clubs and of course, some customers really just love pole dancing, but then again, you would be best learning a few moves really well than a whole bunch that you have not yet perfected.

Aggghhh…Empy and I must have been posting at the same time as my post did not show.

If you are wanting to become a dancer I would focus more on flow, transitions and oozing sexuality. A few well executed moves can grab attention but that is all you really need. The last thing that someone wants is a sweaty tired dancer, and most advanced pole dancing will leave you that way.

As far as progression, it really depends on the person. I was already into fitness before beginning on my pole journey so some moves came easy. I do not have a dance background so flexibility and flow are my weak points.

I would also suggest trying to find a bar that has poles where you can practice performing. Dancing in front of people is different than doing it at home.

And after reading Empy’s post it seems like we just said the same thing. Great minds, huh?

Thank you both for your advice….yes I do want to become an exotic dancer, it is true they focus more on the sex appeal and the way they move, which is exactly why I wanted to learn the pole moves ( besides the fact that its an excellent work out and sooo much fun) you just do not go into too many clubs these days and dancers utilizing the pole. But I do agree a few very good moves are better, I guess Im just so anxious to master these moves but I know they will come with practice and time. Ive seen many videos on here where ladies perform to a song and they use the pole a majority of the time while still incorporating sexy moves and floor work, and I guess that is my goal, but in the meantime I will try and perfect those beginner moves, wish me luck!!

If your new to pole dance and exercise you don’t want to be working on moves every day!! Pole dance is a full body work out and you need a day of rest in between your work outs, to let your muscles recover so they can grow. Now, that doesn’t mean you can’t work with your pole everyday….I’m just suggesting you don’t work on spins and moves (inverts ect.) every day. Transitions, floorwork and such are fine, just save the heavy tricks for every other day, working on the exotic movements would be fine to do daily. If you push and push, you are far more likely to end up with an injury. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif So take your time and have fun. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
