Need Advice on Making Videos
Posted by Devika on March 21, 2012 at 12:42 pmHi All,
This is a dumb question but I would like to record my progress and have never made a video before. I am setting up my pole room, getting internet into it so I can take Veena lessons and will have a laptop in there but the laptop doesn't have a camera.
Can anyone please tell me what is the best/easiest way to make videos (equipment, software) or direct me to a tutorial.
It seems that videos are very helpful/useful in this process.
Thanks so much and hope everyone is having a great day!

You should record all your practices and upload ones you really liked. I just recored with my camera (on video mode) or my Ipad. I then download the video onto my computer and upload it. I do not edit or add music to any of my videos….just too much work and takes too much time. Therefore, many of my videos are a little "rough", but I don't care. You will see some people onn here that do a lot of editing, which I wish I could do, but as I said….too much work/time.

Look at the video just posted from Tarapebbles, that is an example of some of the editing you could do (awesome)…..I wish I could do a fraction of that editing!

I do minor editing with Windows Movie Maker. Didn't even know it was on my computer until I uploaded my first video from my Itouch. I have also used my camera in video mode. I don't video EVERYTHING as I don't have the time to rewatch. I think it has been kind of fun to figure out the editing and make a little move. Especially for challenges.

I use my digital camera on its video setting as the webcam that came with my laptop is too slow to track the quick movements from pole dancing. I also use Windows movie maker to edit, I find it easy to use and i have been please with the results. 🙂

I also use my Panasonic digital camera to record practices and what few challenges I do. It works fine for me, I just wish I could move it back farther but the location of my pole and angle from the door doesn't allow it. So I wish it had a wide angle feature to get more space in, but does fine. I also use Windows Live MovieMaker to edit, nothing fancy. I have a program called AVS video editor but forget to use it. I don't record every practice as it's time consuming to stop and start it in between and it runs out of battery or memory too fast to keep it recording. I do like recording to see what's working and what's not with tricks.

I use or Samsung Digimax digital camera with its video feature, but it needs a bigger SD card. Plus I just the other day found the Windows Movie Maker software on my pc and used it for my second little video. Soon enough I will purchase a nice small video camera to record my practices.

I use a really oooooold Canon camera to record my videos. I don't record every practice session though, like many of the ladies that replied to this post, it's too time consuming to rewatch and upload and delete off the camera (due to lack of memory etc etc). I like editing my videos because I need to always brighten up my video a bit cause it always appears dark, so then I think "what the hell, I'm editing anyway" and add some not so fancy text and the song I practiced to right on top. I use MAGIX Video Easy (which is free) to edit my videos.

I normally use my own video camera but I have used my iPod touch and my phone before. My phone now shoots in HD so I find any excuse to test it out!
I normally just video a routine ive been working on, but ive been slacking off alot since ive had so much stuff going on. I like to add the audio track and do some editing (I went to school for it, gotta use that degree somehow!)

I have video'd on my itouch before, but it was a pain because I'd have to play music on another device. Recently I got a VADO camera and really like it.
Usually I just trim in iphoto. If I want to do more I use imovie but I don't get fancy, it's hard enough to get pole time in and I don't want to spend a lot of time editing. I also don't video every practice because I"m not going to watch everything again. I may just video something I'm working on.
HTH, good luck. 🙂

Hi All ~
Thanks so much for the tips. I just went ahead and ordered a small HD video camera on Amazon. It was really discounted, so I don't have too much invested in it. I'll see how it works or doesn't. I really can see the value in taping at least some if not all practice sessions and it was time for me to get a video camera for other purposes too. Thanks again!

I do tape all my practices….normally i will just delete afterwards is no big event happened, such as a fall (for bloopers or to see how it happened) or what if u try a new move and get it? I have my “first” on everything recorded…..first invert, extended butterfly and even shoulder mount! When i capture those moments i then save to my computer….otherwise my practices just are deleted.

nymph and sparrow, which VADO model do you have? Aerial Amy loves hers and I keep thinking about getting one. I can't place my digital camera/tripod too far from my pole due to where the door is and angle and wonder about wide angle on the Vado.
