I’m in the process of saving for my very 1st pole. I should have enough by Xmas, yay merry Xmas to me. I’ve only ever taken a handful of classes & that was 3 years ago. So basically, I am a fresh beginner. I’ll be learning solely at home from DVDs becuz there are no actual classes w/in a 2hr drive from here 🙁
I’m thinking of getting the Xpole- don’t know which yet. I have 8′ ceilings & carpet. I cannot be drilling holes in the ceiling-I’m a military wife so we’ll probably be moving in a year or so. I also need something that I can take down & put back up myself – my husband says thats the only way he’ll let me have one since our family visits all the time. Please give me suggestions ladies.
I LOVED the classes when I first took them. They made me feel great, powerful & especially motivated to stay in shape. I had never found an exercise where I WASN’T constantly looking at the clock for it to end. I would actually look FORWARD to getting my butt KICKED & wish the class was longer. So please any recommendations are greatly appreciated – even if they’re just to other posts in the forums for beginners. I’m gonna need all the help I can to get started.

I recommend the XPole for sure… Get the 45mm Titanium. The 50mm Chrome is what I have, but now I wish I would’ve had someone tell me that Titanium is a better grip (Chrome looks nice and silver and shiny but since your a beginner you will be dealing with sweaty hands and thats a nightmare if you have a Chrome pole Im telling you from experience!) and 45mm is a smaller diameter around and easier to get your hand around for grips, lifts and mounts.

Titanium, great. How hard or how long does it take to take it down/ put it away? Does it take 2 people or just 1?

I need to be able to take it down quick – certain visitors & my parents will “flip” if they see it. & it’s the deal breaker w/ my hubby.

🙂 My parents are still trying to adjust to my belly dancing classes that I started a month ago. There’s NO way they’ll EVER understand a pole. LOL

Linda, good luck with your pole. I’m in a similar predicament. University apartment in midst of a bible belt. No one around me would understand, including parents & BF. And how do you explain a hole in ceiling & carpet? ” Sorry, I was focusing so hard my brain explodedx ;-)”. What I wonder about are what brands are safest for polers and is thinner or wider better in the long run?once I get mine, it’ll have to last for a while…

If you want something that comes apart, x pole and platinum stages both have multi pieces. If you get an pole, definitely go with the 45mm. I have a 50mm, and being a shorty I cannot grip it for the life of me despite having leaned on a 50mm.

I have a 1 piece platinum stages brass pole and I like it. If you are moving though, it might now work for you since it is custom cut to your ceiling height and has ony 6" of adjustment play.

Everyone will have different opinions on this, but I say definitely go with either PS or XPole.

Personally, I have a 50mm chrome XPole Xpert (bottom-loading multi-piece spinning+static) in my apartment at school.  I have small, sweaty hands, but when I was deciding what kind of pole to get, I bought mine because the poles at my studio are 50mm as well; I knew it would be really frustrating if I got the 45mm for home practice and struggled on the bigger ones during class because of it.  At some point in the distant future, I would like to get a second pole (probably an Xpole stage in 45mm brass!) so that I can learn how to work with that as well, but for the time being I am very happy with what I have.  I still have grip issues sometimes, but that usually means I'm not warmed up enough (or the pole isn't warm enough).  But that's fixable.

I went through this back in March.  I ended up buying a 50mm Titanium X-Pert X-pole.  It is SUPER easy to take up and down by myself. (less than 5 min if I don't take apart the individual pieces and just shove it in a closet :D)  I chose Titanium because of the extra grip, and the only thing I had ever poled on was the 50mm brass poles they had at my studio.

I chose to go with a 50mm pole because it is still the industry standard, and it's MUCH easier to go down in pole size than up.  I'm a small girl – 5'1", 120lbs, and my hands are 6 1/2" from the base of my palm to the tip of my longest finger.  Everything I've learned is MUCH easier on my friend's 45mm pole, but the 50 makes me work harder, so when I get on the 45 it's simply effortless.  (after playing on my friend's Chrome 45, that's DEFINITELY going to be my next pole).

I like having the xPert because I can play on either Static or Spinning mode, and for me both have their pros and cons.

I agree with everyone here about going either with XPole or PS. I've been EXTREMELY happy with my Xpole.  I haven't had to contact customer support, but I hear it's great.  PS customer support has had some MAJOR issues in the past, but recent posts on this forum say that it's improving by leaps and bounds.

If you're not sure about metals or diameters, see if you can find someone in the area with a pole you can play on for a little while.  Good luck, I know you'll love your new pole!!

yay congrats on talking the SO into allowing you to get a pole, it took me ages but hey if you want something bad enough!!

i went out and got the XPERT in 50mm, i only had 3-4 lessons prior but the addiction set in. The pole is up within 10 minutes so there is no problem time wise.

the only thing i'm not sure about is the spinning option which i've used a few times but with my limited experience i cannot control the speed and therefore tend to get dizzy!!

hope this helps and enjoy your new pole whatever you choose x
