New X Joints!!
Posted by chemgoddess1 on November 15, 2011 at 2:39 pmI just wanted to inform people that XPole has released new X Joints. They are a bit longer than the originals and also have a hex adjustable center pin. These were designed mostly for heavy use poles (studios, competions, people like Shadow) but for the main X Joint I think they would be beneficial for just about anyone. I am not sure if they are on their site. I just got 8 new ones to replace the ones we have in the studio and heard about them when I called.

Hmmm… would really like to hear more about those. I have 2 Xpoles that could use some better joint technologies. Thanks for sharing! Let us know how they work out for you when you get them installed.

ooooooo, exciting! I definitely want to hear about how these compare to the older xjoints!
-
I think they are about $20? I am going to upload some pics to my profile of them.

wow that's great news https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif and the price is not bad at all.

Wow, really? Only $20? I’m guessing this fits all the pole with XJoints and not just the new pole??

What is the new pole? I am not sure if they make this in a 45 or not.
Here are the pics:

Chem, they improved the joints for the 45mm the same way, we have some =)

So has the new joint corrected the problems the joints were having with turning inside the pole?
-
i believe yes– the thicker walls of the hex screw (rather than the thin walls of the pin) are much sturdier and don't get depressed…. so i can't really see how they will turn unless the walls of the pole itself get bent out of shape, allowing the pin to turn. if that makes sense.

The spinning problem is 2 fold: not lining the pole up properly in the first place and not tightening the joint properly. I know that some of our joints got messed up because when putting B pole on top of the joint the holes were not lined up and poeple just spun the pole around to get them to line up instead of lifting and spinning the pole. The other problem was not cranking the crap out of the joint. Yes…you have to seriously put all of your weight into tightening them…a "just tight" WILL NOT WORK and will cause problems. Even on the joints that we had with retracted pins we were able to use without them spinning.
I know quite a few people (me including) that got screwdriver handles because allen keys are such a pain to use, but a screwdriver handle with a hex bit will not give you enough torque necessary to tighten these properly.
The new design I beleive is a screw pin so there is a possibility that with time vibrations may cause it to push in a bit. I have not taken one of the new ones apart to see exactly how it is constructed (yet). And come on Amy…..you know you have done that same thing!

Chem, thanks so much for the info… I have been wanting to buy a new pole, and since I needed a multipiece pole, I wanted to go with Xpole, but have been really kind of nervous about the things I had been hearing about the xjoints. I think I just might put it on the Christmas List now. 🙂
