Hi! Im Anastasia, Im from Cleveland, OH. I just bought xpole about 3 weeks ago, and set it on spinning mode…Since then learned some basic spins such back/front hook, basic climbing, snowflake, no big dealhttps://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif Well I don't think it is that bad since I never took classes and trying to learn on my own through online videos.

I wonder if anyone here could answer my questions (i know they will sound stupid), but not having a teacher I am really wondering if the skin on my inner thies will eventually get less sensitive. I try to sit on a pole but it hurts like hell all the timehttps://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif Another question – I swiched to stationary pole and now having trouble to understand how to spin on it. I mean, the spins I learned on a spinning pole now last for like second or two, is it supposed to be that way? I undestand I should try to get more momentum but what about front hook spin for example, I just can't get momentum for that(

I bruise like a peach. As a matter of fact I bruised so bad that i was told by other friends and dancers that i should get some bloodwork done…so i did… im as healthy as a horse (i guess horses are really healthy..?) so, i was determined to work thru the bruises and sure enough they started going away, my skin got used to it. i can now sit on the pole (the pain used to be sooooo bad) , lay back, and have a blast with no pain. when i learn new moves and they rub or strain a certain spot, i know now that eventually the skin will just toughen 🙂 as far as spins go, i would just use your free leg (not the one hooking) as momentum and throw yourself into it…carefully lol. i learned on a static so when i switched to spin, i spun so fast, i could have time traveled, so i just learned to tone down the momentum given off by my free leg. play around with pole. i honestly think the more you play, the more it pays. 🙂 happy poling !

ps. if youre prone to bruising, arnica cream is the answer 🙂

Arnica and ice are your new pole buddies :3

I used to bruise really really really badly. Now I think my body is used to the torment, as when I learn a new trick the bruise only lasts for a few days. Like, having a menstrual cycle, just on my skin :p

It gets better, but you’ll have bruises that stay no matter what. The coloration will just start to fade. I have semi-permanent knee and foot bruises from dancing. My legs don’t look like a meth addict anymore, but do they still hurt when I crawl into bed!

Are you using the online lessons here? If so, be sure to check out all of the "Getting Started" video lessons. They explain how to use the lessons and have some great tips in there as well. You can also structure your pole workouts with the info in those lessons.

The lessons have both static and spinning pole so make sure your not confusing the 2. Static is placed first and spinning pole last in each lesson.

The girls have some great advice on bruising. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Thanks everyone! I guess that is good news for me, I really hope the skin will toughen as it feels now like parts of my skin will rip off my legs as I try to sit on the pole lol

I will definitely check out the videos here as I get lil more upper body strength) Although i am very very impatient to learn, cant wait to invert, I hope I wont take more than 3 month to do that:)

Ooooh… well…., Anastasiakow, the lessons here are designed to build strength to help you progress fastr! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gifYou don't need to be strong or have a previous background in anything. Even if you've never touched a pole you could learn and build strength from the lessons here. Its not like youtube. They are also placed in order so you don't have to guess what you should be working on for your level.

Yeah, your skin will get better https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I use a little iTac2 on my thighs to help grip the pole. The pain does get better though. I didn’t believe my instructors when they first told me that, but last night I did a Wrist Sit and it was only when I came off the pole that I realized that my thighs weren’t on fire.

As for static spins, I find that most of my momentum comes from leaning into a spin. For example, with a fireman, I will start my walk, lift one leg straight and high, lean into the pole and then place my feet on the pole.

Definitely check out the lessons here though. I’m not a beginner, but I still find the basic lessons helpful.

Jogging/running should help your bruises go away faster as it boosts the blood circulation. Keep your heart rate up when exercising. 🙂

Agggghhhh!!!!!  Why did I not see this earlier??  I am also in Cleveland.  There are 2 schools in town, Be Studios and Cleveland Exotic Dance; you should consider looking in to one of them at least for a few lessons here and there.  If you have any questions about eitehr just shoot me a mail through this site.  There are also jams typically once a month at Cleveland Exotic.  They just had one two weeks ago so there probably will not be one again until January since they have a showcase coming up this month.
