    Hi All,
I’ve had my Xpert for about 6 weeks now and am just getting into an every other day routine of practicing. I have few questions to figure out if I’m on the right track… Maybe my fellow polers can help me out.
    1. How long did it take to feel comfortable with your pole? (i. e. not feeling silly with every move)
    2. Are my muscles suppose to feel like spaghetti for a bit? (I do not workout in general, this is my main goal for poling)
    3. When I try the spin moves in Veena’s beginner lessons, the back of my heel hurts in like I’m stressing the tendon or something. Is that normal? If not, what and I doing wrong?
    4. Last question, I promise 🙂 I fee like I am holding on to my pole for dear life with every move. Did others feel this way when they started and how did you overcome that need to do so at first?

Thanks so much in advance for all of your help. I find myself wanting to be on my pole everyday but as a wife and mom of a 3 yr old, every other is what I can get for now.

Hi Scorpion, and welcome to the world of pole!  To answer your questions,

    1. I always feel silly when trying a new move!  I feel comfortable with the basics I've mastered, but whenever I try something I haven't done before or have a lot of practice with, I don't feel sexy at all.  It's normal!

    2. My muscles felt like TOTAL spaghetti the first couple weeks of pole, because I had no prior workout experience.  It will get better!

    3. Never experienced this – hopefully someone else can answer!

    4. You will learn to trust yourself more, and when you do, you'll loosen your grip.  I death gripped my pole when I was first learning.  Once I practiced more, I started to loosen my grip.  You'll find you get a better spin, and there is less strain on your wrists!  It will come with time.

Hope that helped!  And keep poling!

Hey NonFlexy, thanks so much for your responses! I’m glad that I’m not alone in my experiences. This will definitely keep me motivated. I’ll keep working on it.
    Thanks again!

Sorry I missed this post! Hi, welcome to the site! Yes your not alone in feeling like that! Sometimes move come very easily and other times it seems to take forever for something to feel comfortable. Your doing the right thing by dancing ever other day and not everyday. This will allow your muscle to repair.

Have you tried using the new 30 day take off program? You might find that helpful, its also full of information in addition to lessons you should use.

WELCOME!  Yes, feeling of silly in the begining and learning new moves.  There are some things I still feel awkward with.  And can feel that way when ready to learn or try something new.

Muscles sore/spaghetti, yes, for sure.  It gets better.  Also don't forget bruises/scrapes,etc.  It's all part of the journey.

Never experienced the heel issues.  Have pulled/strained ab muscles/lat muscles, etc.  Mainly when did  not warm up, PLEASE don't make that mistake and make sure to warm up!  Or when tried to do something by kicking up into it instead of building proper core/arm strength to get something.

Death grip, oh, for sure!  Sometimes I'm still told loosen hand grip with new things.  I was learning spinning chopper the other day with a veneer via skype and she reminded me to loosen grip to spin more. agh! LOL

Every other day is great.  I think a lot of us would do every day in the beginning and, for me, it was too much.  Need to let muscles rest and I found I could practice better without body being super fatigued.  It's hard because everytime I'd walk by my pole, I wanted to do "something".

You are not alone and this is a great place for support, encouragement, love and FUN!

    Hi Scorpian Vixon,

I too am new to the wonderful world of pole! Welcome! I also felt a little silly, but it does seem to be a normal reaction whenever we learn something new.

@ Non Flexy, Thank you for number four! I have been sporting a little shoulder injury after my first few weeks with my pole, and after reading your post, decided I would try to loosen my grip, and wahla…no pain. I did not put any pressure on my deltoids by keeping my feet on the ground, but I think I have been holding on too tight and this now believe might have caused the pain in my deltoids.

    Again, welcome Scorpian Vixon!!
