No hands cradle
Posted by mizzli on August 8, 2013 at 3:36 amJust wondering what the mechanics of this move is and how to get into it?
Does anyone have any advice? I can't figure out how to stick onto a static pole long enough to take both hands off.
Thanks 🙂

Can you post a picture or a link? I have a feeling I call this move by a different name

Not so sure you can do hands-free cradle on static? I mean I guess it's possible, but this is a move I'd try on spin, personally. (I've only ever gotten a one-handed Cradle). Because to stick without hands, you gotta grip the pole between your belly and the tops of your thighs, and I just don't see how you could do that AND spin. Ouch!
Unless you're just talking about the pose, not the spin..

Here is a thread from a little while ago: https://www.studioveena.com/forums/view/4d2233de-8a48-4992-bd6d-7c4f0ac37250
It is also called a Frodo. The trick to this is using your forearms pressed into the pole as your contact points.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your replies and for the thread @Chemgoddess1
I'm not sure as its something that is taught in my current place where poles are static and I was wondering if its actually possible to be sideways on the pole…
I'll look for a picture when I am back home after work.
I read in the thread about the internal tearing, not sure if I even want to learn the move!

This video was linked in this thread but David does a pretty good job of explaining it. https://www.studioveena.com//videos/view/46af99ae-bcf6-11df-856f-001b214581be

And the tearing is from trying to do this as a spin on a static pole.

This isn't a move I was taught, but I remember going to an open pole practice session at a studio and seeing a girl off in the distance doing a no hands cradle. It was absolutely on a spinning pole because she went several revolutions. I'm sure it's "possible" to do as a static spin but not very practical (and probably very very painful).

@Chemgoddess1, the tips in the vid are helpful – I didn't know the forearm had a role in the move. It will be my weaker arm at the bottom so I'm not sure if it's going to be harder or I can try to cradle the opposite side with strong arm at the bottom.
I prob will give the static version as opposed to a spin – the other reason is I always feel like voming after one trick on spinny so I never use spinny. lol!

Ok, I'm gonna chime in here. I don't know if you have kids or have extra tummy skin, but please please be careful with this, especially on a static pole. A few years ago, I was teaching a cradle and how to get out of it gracefully, WITH hands. My "mommy skin" grabbed the pole and as I came down my skin did not, it stuck the pole and I came down and tore my abdominal wall. I didn't realize it at first, just thought I going to end up with a nasty bruise, maybe even a small clot under my skin. Long story short, I ended up in the hospital a few hours later, then a few hours after that had hernial repair surgery. Because of the amount of fitness that I did, they had to do an open incision, stitch my abdominal wall than apply mesh on top. I can't do the the spin any more because it pulls on my incision and the adhesions underneath.
So please be careful!
If you want more detail and a pic (not gruesome), here ya go!

I agree with DGP! If you have extra skin at all…I do…be VERY careful with this on static, even on spin too. I don't do a lot of moves that have contact like that be cause of the mommy skin I have.

DirtyGirlPoletice – That’s pretty scary! Thanks for sharing your experience.

I too find this painful at the tummy and I don’t have kids and only did it on spinny.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us @Dirty Girl POLEtice
I've got a flabby tummy so was wondering if it's possible just relying on the arms and thigh to grip and found a vid by this lady – she does a very nice no hands cradle without belly grip (it appears that her top is covering her belly): https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/4f7bd802-add8-40fe-86f6-0aad0ac37250
I might give that a try. Either way we will cover it in class next few weeks so I guess I can't avoid it… :/

Oh you should do the hold by using the elbows however I find that my skin still can be a problem, but it may not be for everyone 🙂
