As an alternative to stripper heels i like to wear ballet shoes, i bought a black pair with ribbons from topshop for £18, or you can get leather ballet shoes from danceplanet website for about £10, they look great..

I use the five fingers for Chinese pole…never thought to use them for pole! They might be a bit difficult to do “dancey” moves in as they have great traction (hence being great for Chinese pole). Not to mention they feel funny until you get used to them. I love using the sock undies!!!!

I use sansha split sole ballet flats for practice and foot undies or heels for performances 😀

My instructor INSISTED we (all newbies) to pole with heels…I tried it for one class and almost twisted my ankle…after that, I just wear socks.
I’m considering split ballet flats now just to help with turns and friction to ‘land’ but im thinking about foot paws/undies too.
So…Which gives you more control: foot paws, foot undies or ballet flats?

Thanks ladies! I think I am going to buy a pair of foot undies to try as well but I did go buy some five fingers And I love them so far!! We’ll see how class Monday goes. I’ll keep you updated!!

for mechie: it depends on the floor surface vs the material on sole of the “shoe”. for me I find my foot undies tend to slide around a bit. I dance on burbur carpet and tough plastic office mats. I like my ballet flats better because they don’t slide. if you’ve never worn ballet flats before, and depending on the brand you buy, you may or maynot have to sew elastic bands on the shoe around your ankle. also there is usually an elastic string towards the upper toe area that needs adjusting too (hint:not too tight and not too loose, play around with it flat footed and Demi point -on tippy toes).

mechie how in the world can you pole in socks??? I can't even imagine trying to climb without tons of skin or nice sticky shoes!!!!

@nymphdancer- lol I’m a newbie so all my climb are pretty basic, I mainly use the top of my foot. So as long as my socks are low enough (no-show socks) it’s doable.
I can’t turn when I’m barefoot because my feet sticks to the hardwood floor.
When I get my pole (hopefully in a month or so) I might try Foot Paws since my apt is carpeted.
