Old Poler is New to Pitt
I am not new to Studio Veena at all but I am new to the Pittsburgh area. I also have taken a year hiatus and I am finally able to pole again, at least until January when I have hip surgery. I have yet to find the pole community I am used to from Akron/Cleveland.
I ran Life source Yoga where I created and implemented the first aerial program in that area. I had two years of pole experience prior to that and I taught for about 4 years. While I loved pole and teaching I ran myself ragged. I taught to much, didn't listen to my body, and ended up with a partially detached right upper pectoral and a torn labrum in my hip that caused a cam impingement. I am not even going to mention the minor injuries in my wrist, shoulders, and neck or the lack of motivation, support, and self confidence from a toxic relationship. I was stuck in a limbo and never really progressed past my intermediate level.
Fast forward a year later I have moved to a different state, will have surgery on my hip in Jan, my chest is healed, and I am in the most fabulous and motivating relationship I could imagine. My pole is up and I kicked my ass with just a warm-up I would use in a beginners class. Needless to say I have been humbled. I would like to take the next year working on me and my pole. I have been offered by 3 different gyms to start up a program and was offered a job at one studio. While I will keep them in mind and filed in the back of my brain, I pole for me. I need to get back to that. It also is not fair to introduce pole to students and take it away for 7 months after my surgery.
So in short I want to find a community and people to pole with. possibly expanding on my contacts for performances when my hip is better, and just pole.
Namaste,
Dino
