So I had a pole lesson today. And to be honest Myself and a few of the girls have been kind of doubting the polefitness instructor. trying to cut it short. She is always late, I caught her looking through my pole vids on my phone that i had done at home she didnt like that me and one of my friends were doing it at home together. And I always wanted to find out about people using gripping aids. She uses Itac level FOUR and its thick on all of the poles in the studio like you can see it, it goes black coz all the dirt sticks to it so much. And she stopped teaching a girl and fell out with her because the student became better than her!

So today she was half an hour late for an hour lesson(if u hav to b somewhere why book me in) and if you cancel on her she charges a cancellation fee. (i wouldnt mind if she showed up on time like) The poles were really slippy because it was so cold and there is no heating in the room and with all the itac on it I dont know what happens but its pretty much impossible to grip. Plus I was freezing and couldn't warm up.. I did a few Shoulder mounts grand, she did a superman and was sliding but taught it might be ok for me to do it? I tried anyway and said no way. she decided to put MORE itac on the pole and offered me more for my hands!!? then she got me to do scorpio no hands which was the only outa de three that I couldnt get close to doing yet I was slipping she sed slide down I hav you and BANG.. flat on my shoulders and ass!! did the shoulder mount again she told me to invert v out and I usually do a handstand she sed ull b grand and bang absolutly smacked my foot off the ground!

If you ask me Im suprised I didnt hurt my self seriously! So opinions please am I stupid  for doubting her, am i stupid to think she uses waaaay to much itac, that she should take her job more seriously, that she kind of put me in a potential danger? Should I just take online lessons and forget about her?

Sooooooooooo unproffesional!!!  Everything you said is waving big red flags for me.  She doesn't sound like someone I would want to take lessons from.

If you continue to take lessons, just be careful.  Don't do anything you don't feel ready for, but to be honest, I wouldn't waste my money!

Thanks! And I could have said more just didn't want to keep going on and on! What do you think about the itac thing do you use anything for grip? I think Ill just do the online lessons and forget about her. There is another studio but its an hour drive but it is probably worth it if i can find the time!!

Ugh, I use itac but a little goes a long way…and it doesn't sound like the poles get cleaned, it def shouldn't be black : /  Have you tried Veena's lessons?  I'm on my last day of my free trial but am going to get the year subscription.  Also, emotioncatcher has some good tutorials on youtube that are free although the Veena lessons are a little easier for me, she explains more thoroughly…

Just like the other girl say, it doesn't look good to me…at all. You should really consider another studio or Veena lessons. Always trust yourself and if it don't feel right than maybe it's because it's not. Personnaly i need to be able to trust 100% the person who want me to do any move on a pole.

Your better off just learning on your own! I would report her if that's even an option.

i first studio i ever went to (before i found my current one) was awful! The teachers were so unprofessional and were not advanced themselves. In my opinion, a teacher should be able to do majority of the moves in pole dancing- unless he or she is teaching a STRICTLY beginner class that does not even thinking about doing inverts.

The current studio I attend has very knowledge instructors and they put safety first.

There are many women here that do not have a studio near by and learn through Veenas lessons only.  Her lessons are very detailed. She tells you what muscles are being strengthened and refers you to the strength lessons to work on to be able to execute a particular move.  They are very thorough and safe.

I use lesson and go to a studio and can honestly say I like doing both.  There are spurts of times that I cannot afford to go to the studio and I focus on Veena's lessons.

Azblanco, there is a studio down in NOLA that now has pole… Laura is the instructor and she is a burlesque performer too.  It is called Crescent Lotus Dance Studio.  She studied under Mattcrobat and Shadow up here in Cleveland.

As for the OP…RUN!!!!  Itac and I do not react well and create a slippery mess for me.  If I had walked into that studio in that condition I would have required a clean pole and would ask for my money back if they could not provide you with that in the least.  There is a pole studio website where you can leave comments about studios that you attend and the owner of the site is on this forum.  I would aslo write a review on yelp or yahoo.  Just my 2cents.

yep I have been to two classes with Laura at Crescent Lotus! She has class once a week. She is amazing. Super strong and has given me a lot of strengthening exercises.

I go to another studio called Body in Motion- they are good too. And I like variety =)

Thank you for looking out for me Chemmie =)

I’ve been to several different studios, some good, some great, and some I’d never go within 10 miles of ever again. I had one instructor that’s an amazing ” trickster” that backed off while I was stuck in a CAR and said she didn’t know how to spot people. Wth?!?! She couldn’t have told me that before I got stuck hanging upside down? However, I have an instructor now that I love. Although she doesn’t actually demonstrate the big tricks, she stands right by me, and walks me through it step by step, exactly what to do. I’ve learned a ton from her in just a few months. Just goes to show some people can do, but they can’t teach, and some people are just really good teachers. The trick is finding what’s right for you either online or in person. Listen to your instincts. The worst thing you can do is ignore your inner voice and risk getting seriously injured.

Thanks everyone i wasnt sure if i was over reacting or not! My foot is actually killing me! I am limping when I walk… doubt if Ill b back on the pole for a few days =( So needless to say I wont be going back again! Its true I am lucky I escaped with just that!

Yeah I have looked at emotion catchers tutorials there good and dirdy birdy.. Honestly I think I learned more from them than I did from my pole instructor! Veena will have to be my new instructor! And I havint learned anything on a static pole at all she only did spinning! Is it much different?!

Static pole is TOTALLY different than spin.  In static you have to be your momentum where in spin you have to be able to hold a pose while you fight being thrown off the pole.

the difference between static and spin is worlds apart. there are things you can do on one that you can't do on the other.

All red flags. I'd avoid her from now on (if it were me.) Sounds like she doesn't know what she's doing and you could get SERIOUSLY hurt. ANother thing, I don't think iTac is supposed to be rubbed on the pole. I think it's more for points of contact on your skin. Because it is bees wax based, it can melt when it gets warm, actually causing slippage. I bet you the stuff on the pole is all melted and slick.

I agree with everyone else. Major red flags, and the fact you are even doubting her skills as an instructor is a huge concern. Basically when you lack trust for your instructor, you are putting yourself in danger and risking injury. If I was a studio owner and one of my instructors was not performing to professional standards including safety, I would want to know. This is something that could jeopardize a studio’s existence. Is thee any way yu could email the owner so they aw aware of your dissatisfaction
And the fact they are losing your support? I’d hate for her to lose her job, but maybe she needs someone to point out what she is doing before seriously injures someone. she needs to realize maybe she needs to have a proper training or take a step back and reevaluate her approach. If anything fails to come from it, then that is their karma they are gambling with. I would just send a single email or letter and be done with it. No response to create a war of words, just a hey this happened and now I’m on my own. Peace out. Good luck working with V’s lessons. That is the approach I began my learning with. The good thing is you will have amazing support and the expertise of everyone here to fall back on. In time, there will be another studio in your area. You just have to give it time. Pole studios always come and go, it’s a revolving door industry and eventually there is bound to be a legit studio you will feel safe and comfortable attending.

@Kobajo84 – You know I agree with everthing you said and its very important to have trust and support from your instructor…… BUT would you believe she IS the owner of the studio and the sole instructor… She cant even do a handspring now either can I but I have only been pole dancing for 6 months she has been poling for over 4 years or so she says… and she cant go into a handstand withouth coming out of a CAR or CKR,… like dats pretty basic? I think anyway? she even encouraged me to pole dance when I was sore and I pulled a muscle … absolutely zero knowledge of the instruction and care she is meant to give to her clients besides the fact that she is in no where near being a business woman example not knowing you have to be licenced to play music… I feel another rant coming on haha ah no but seriously she even puts loads of personal stuff on her facebook business page such as saying she can fit into a pair of AGE 10-12 skinny jeans "not a bad thing" apparently and going on about lads chatting her up coz she is Da Bomb like and writing things up if she has a fight with another girl and so on!!!https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

And I definitely do not want to get injured!!! So I have the 3 day trial, and all of V's lessons are really imformative! So defo goin to subscribe and practice my self … Only thing is I hav a 50mm pole and its kinda hard to do some of the advanced stuff on ill hav to invest in the 45mm pretty soon! Plus I think Im gettin on pretty good for jus having started pole 6 months ago… Ill hav to post a video soon 😛 Plus I need to find someone else from ireland to pole jam with! Know anyone send them this way!

This is a good example of why der should be a body to measure pole instructors abilities… like you need to be qualified to be a gym instructor you know?..

Thanks for all the advice ladies =) x
