  • Opinions on multi-piece poles… HELP!!!!

I've been taking pole lessons at a studio for about a year and I am looking to buy a pole.  I have been learning on a permanently installed lil mynx pole and I love it.  I find it really sturdy and just an overall good pole.   However, I am moving to an apartment soon and I want to buy a pole for home use but I can't use a permanently installed pole because of the drilling into the ceiling aspect.  I've looked at lil mynx's two part removable pole and the xpole xpert  but my instructors have warned me against multi-piece poles altogether.  I weigh about 165-170 lbs and I'm about 5'9" so I'm kind of worried about the poles breaking at the joints etc, especially because I love wide spins and tricks that have a fair amount of my weight leaning from one side of the pole…. I'd really love some feedback about mulit-piece poles in general and which one(s) people have had good experiences with, or if there are single piece poles available that are actually worth buying/don't require drilling.  I don't know a whole lot about poles in general so I'd really appreciate the input. Thanks everyone!

The Lil Mynx multi piece I believe still requires you to drill the little hole in the ceiling.  It can be put up without doing this however the top is very small and will not stay in place for full spins.

PS has a multi piece stainless that is a decent pole IF, and I mean IF they have gotten their quality control issues worked out.  About 2 years ago they were having issues with the threading and also with these breaking at the seams.  With the threading issue the pole pieces woudl not sit together at all and left a gap.  The breaking issue was just that.  We had a pole break in half while someone was on it and PS was absolutely horrible about repacing the pole.  Again, this was about 2 years ago.

X Pole has a multi piece that can be changed for whatever height ceiling you have (so if you move you do not have to buy another pole).  I now have seen another issue with the X joint  flaring the pole at the joint and if you do not spread the X joint fully it can spin inside the pole which causes issues with ever taking the pole apart.  The X Joint is a newer design (the old style screwed together) and I would like to watch to see if the flaring issue is going to become a nightmare.  I will also note that hundreds of women (and men) on the forum have this pole but this seems to be a new issue.

There is nothing wrong with multi piece poles with the exception of the cheap poles that are out there.  I know that PS does not recommend theirs for studio use (unless this has changed).

Chemmie covered it all and I concur with her statements.

You can completely trust "good" removable poles to support you but you also have to check them regularly to make certain your floor hasn't settled or ceiling shifted which can cause the pole to come loose. Just jerk on it a few times every few hours of use or every day.

We have them in our studio and have used them for students for 6 years and many students are in the 200# range.

Thanks a lot everyone, that was really helpful.  I have also been reading a lot about the new x joint issues and I guess it's just something I'll have to watch and be patient about to see if it gets resolved.  Because I had otherwise heard that x-pole was great.  Thank you very much!!!!
