  • Pain in arm during and after pole.

Ive been doing pole for about 2 months now, and recently when I have been practicing split grip my left (bottom) arm has been aching what feels like from the inside. Not during the move but as I am exiting. It’s not the muscles and I’m doing everything properly–pointer finger down, elbow bent slightly into my stomach/ribs, and not pushing myself at all. I can move the muscles around my forearm, but when I push in between the two muscles I feel a sharp pain all the way up and under my elbow. I was wondering if anybody has some insight on what this might be or how to fix it.

I had the same problem when I just started poling. I could do an inverted split grip, but not a carousel spin in split grip. Even though I was trying to put most my weight on my top arm. It was just because my arm was not conditioned enough. Go into the conditioning section and start working on the exercises in there to strengthen your forearms.

This is very common. That bottom hand should not take any weight at all. If you cannot do a one handed spin or support all of your weight from your top hand you should not be doing split grips. It is the ulnar that you have aggravated. Powerballs are a wonderful thing to use to strengthen this muscle.

In carousel spin try doing it with the fingers pointing up and just pushing yourself away from the pole without gripping the pole at all. Lots of conversations about this if you run a search. At 2 months in I hate to say you probably do not have the proper strength to do this.
