  • Pain on Inner Thigh in Hip Holds

When I first started being able to do hip hold moves. Bomb, Pike, and V they did not hurt much and I was able to hold them no hands. I tried to do a Jade which was close to being straight no hands but ever since then when I try to do any hip hold moves it hurts so much, I can barely hold any of them now. Both sides hurt a lot. I was wondering am I placing the pole on the wrong area? I've been holding it in the crease of where my hip and thigh meet. I was also wondering is there some conditioning I can do to the area so it doesnt hurt as much when trying these moves? Any advice would be much appreciated 🙂

Most thigh holds are done along the inner upper thigh but not way up by the crease. You want to be on the fleshy part of the thigh, not up too high on any tendons. If you've become stronger in the adductor (inner thigh) area, thicker muscle could be causing you to feel pain more. Or if you are using a different diameter pole or pole finish.

If it's not any of those things, do you think maybe your just more aware of the pain now, maybe before you were so excited to be doing hip holds you didn't notice the pain? Also when we are close to or have our periods our pain tolerance is much lower maybe thats it?

Thanks for getting back to me Veena. Love this site you've put together by the way 🙂 I think its possible that because of the tenderness I feel on my inner thigh area from other moves I have been placing the pole into the crease area instead but that ends up hurting a lot. I have gotten thicker muscles in my thighs for sure as well. I didnt know  that having thicker/harder muscles could create more pain. I'm defenitely not going to place the pole in the crease anymore, sounds like I could be doing damage. Thanks for all the tips
