    Hi ladies
I love my pedis, I go every 3 weeks to a good friend who owns a day spa. They don’t really offer pedicures to the public any longer, but she still does mine as a favor to a friend. No pedi chairs–just a bowl of hot water and sterilized tools. I’m prone to ingrowns, so there is usually a good bit of digging out corners.
Friday I had a routine pedi. Sunday I awoke with a sore corner on my big toe. I started warm soaks every couple of hours, which usually helps. Monday it started throbbing. By Monday night, I was in agony. Throbbing, swollen, awful. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif
Tuesday my foot swelled, and I went to the doctor.
I’m lucky, it’s a localized infection and antibiotics should take care of it. The doc said this is super common from pedis. SHE also said, she wouldn’t have a pedi on a bet.
So just a friendly public health reminder, ladies. Pedis have lots of risks with them. Even if your place has a spotless record and sterilizes perfectly, your foot has bacteria on it. If the skin is broken from digging, infection is very easy.
I’ll probably keep having pedis, but will do all the trimming and digging myself–just go for the scrubbing, massaging, and polishing.

    Well, here’s the gruesome update.
Infection cleared, toe still killing me. Went to the podiatrist. Anesthesia and a small surgery removed the shard of nail that was still in there, stabbing me.
It was entirely manmade: pedicurist cut out about 70% of the corner, but left the bottom 30% which caused the problem.
PLEASE be careful! This was a good experienced friend who has been doing my toes for years. Can happen to anyone.
It’s gonna be a while before I can wear my new Glitter Heels! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

it sucks but it can happen. Recently I went to the girl that has done my eyebrow waxing for about 5 years and she ripped off half my eyelid…..never a problem before. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

Hope you get to wear your sparkly shoes soon! i almost ordered a pair the other day but couldn’t make up my mind which ones I wanted. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

Holy crap. So sorry….I have the crustiest feet known to man, and I’ve considered pedis. Thanks to this, I’ll be able to scour my pots easily with my feet, as I’m never going to have one Ever. Ever.

Getting a pedicure is alright for the crusty bit, as she said… you can go for the scrubbing and exfoliating, it’s very relaxing! Just have your toenails clipped and filed beforehand and say that part doesn’t need to be done, and they’ll just paint them for ya! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Thanks for all the foot love, girls! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif

No excuse for crusty feet tho! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif
Here are the two best things I’ve ever found:
The Swedish Clover Fot (one o) File is awesome. It has two sides with different grit files. Use it when you get out of the shower–dry your feet, and then try propping one on the edge of the wastecan or toilet bowl. File with the rougher grit first, then the finer one. You’ll be amazed!

At night, use Kiehl’s Intensive Treatment and Moisturizer for Dry or Cracked Areas:

You can even put socks on over it and go to bed.

No more nasty crusty claws!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I’ve got the heebie-jeebies reading this! Youch!!

I get pedis every month or two though. Love them!

My feet are awful though – with all the bare foot dancing all week they are a mess. I’m going to try to find those products Ottersocks…can you get them over the counter anywhere like a drugstore?

Empy, I found the foot file at a drugstore I believe.
Kiehl’s is sold at high end department stores (Nordstrom, Neimans), online, and at stand alone stores in big cities and malls.
