Pedicure cautionary tale
Hi ladies
I love my pedis, I go every 3 weeks to a good friend who owns a day spa. They don’t really offer pedicures to the public any longer, but she still does mine as a favor to a friend. No pedi chairs–just a bowl of hot water and sterilized tools. I’m prone to ingrowns, so there is usually a good bit of digging out corners.
Friday I had a routine pedi. Sunday I awoke with a sore corner on my big toe. I started warm soaks every couple of hours, which usually helps. Monday it started throbbing. By Monday night, I was in agony. Throbbing, swollen, awful. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif
Tuesday my foot swelled, and I went to the doctor.
I’m lucky, it’s a localized infection and antibiotics should take care of it. The doc said this is super common from pedis. SHE also said, she wouldn’t have a pedi on a bet.
So just a friendly public health reminder, ladies. Pedis have lots of risks with them. Even if your place has a spotless record and sterilizes perfectly, your foot has bacteria on it. If the skin is broken from digging, infection is very easy.
I’ll probably keep having pedis, but will do all the trimming and digging myself–just go for the scrubbing, massaging, and polishing.
