Pixie/pretzel spin
Posted by Dancing Paws on July 24, 2011 at 3:08 pmIs there any special trick to nailing the pixie spin? I just cannot get it. I am really good at reverse grabs, and I can get my body shifted over enough (I think). I can’t get my darn leg wrapped around the pole. It’s like I don’t bend that way and I feel like I am gonna break a rib. I can get my armpit to touch the pole but I cannot twist. Maybe I don’t have the momentum?? That one is a doozy.

The most common thing that poeple do wrong that keeps them from being able to wrap that leg around the pole is not sticking their butt out enough. So try sticking that butt out 🙂

Stickling it out directly behind me or angled away from the pole?

Just stick it out! 😛 I think it is just out directly. But If you are holding with your right hand that would mean your whole body is leaning to the right so it might seem like it would be angled a bit to the right. I hope that helps 🙂

Hey I’m the same I’ve been trying to get it for ages, I think it’s just a case of practicing it over and over and then your body just does it, I keep getting closer the more I do it soil thinking that may be the way to go 🙂

If you're a shorter person, it can be nearly impossible to get into position. Even stationary and standing on the floor, my torso isn't long enough to get in position. If you can't wrap around though, it still looks cool to have the legs straight rather than bent and wrapped.

I am 5'2", so I am short, but the girl on the pocket pole app looks like a shorty and she does it well!

All about the arm, torso, etc. proportions 🙂 My torso is too short to wrap it around, sadly.

I just got this move a week ago on my 45mm stage pole but I cannot get it on my 50mm xpert. I don’t know why bc I’m 5’8″ n I feel like I’m going to break in half trying it on the 50mm.

That's so weird. I wouldn't think that would make a big difference

i would love to get this spin! it would be so great if Veena could do a lesson on it (hint…) 🙂 can anyone break it down into steps? or suggest other spins/moves/stretches that could help? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

can you get into the position without doing the spin? just as a static pose?
can you post a vid of what's happening? i find that it helps to think about getting hte pole very high on your back– almost to the neck, dropping the inside shoulder, and lifting the hip of the leg that's hooking.

Here is MissDirdyBirdy’s video break down of it

I think the technique is way different on a stationary pole. There is no way I could do it the way she did it. My hits are hyperflexive, so if I tried to move my hips that way, they'd pop out of place and snap back in, and it would HURT!
My body would be more like this:
