I heard packing your pole in a golf bag works well for transport.

You will not be able to CARRY any pole on, it will have to be checked.
-
Oh, I would weigh it also as you will incur additional charges if it is over 50 lbs.

Depending on your itinerary it may be less expensive and less of a hassle to simply ship your pole to your final destination. Generally this will cost about $50-$75 and will save you lugging your pole around the airport and drawing the ire of security.

Last March I travelled outside the US for a month so had to carry the pole with me. I wrapped all the tubes in bubble wraps and put them all in a box within the dimension limit and checked the box, then I brought the dome as a carry-on on the plane and went through security just fine. Make sure you’ll give yourself enough time cuz the security people will ask you questions about the dome as many don’t know what it is. Good luck!

You will most likely incur luggage fees, either because of weight or number of pieces.

If you pack the tubes properly, they are within the airplane’s dimension so I’m sure you won’t have to pay any extra $$, unless you fly domestically. Hope that helps.

I just flew with my X-Pole (original model) 10 days ago. I put the two long pole segments into their cardboard tubes, taped them together, and checked them. I put the top and base plates inside my checked suitcase. I had to pay $20 because I was checking 2 items and they only allow 1 for free on the airline I used.
