ughhhh its closed minded people like that that drive me sick https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif ! If a mother wants to bring her child to a FITNESS class I don’t think anything is wrong with that…. obviously the names of the classes were originally set up for adults but from what the pole studio owner was saying there was nothing raunchy being taught to these children…she brought up so many good points but that freaking woman had her head stuck so far up her own butt that she wouldn’t even listen…..GRRRRRRRRRRR

Why does anyone WATCH Fox news https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif Sigh. I thought the owner made several excellent points! I know that at the local circus school, they let the kids on the poles and they LOVE them!!! None of the parents complain! That news lady was so determined to be disapproving https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif I say boycott Fox news!!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Hmmmm……I can’t get the video to play~~ but I am on the Mac right now too…….so I will have to check the PC later.

I imagine it is a borderline negative article. Again, written with very little actual fact and mostly based on opinion and assumptions.

My daughter poles. She is 15(today actually) and I have taught her.
It has been an extremely positive thing for her to do. She has gained confidence and self esteem. She has improved strength and flexibility.

She enjoys it….takes my classes with me and wow…..can the girl move! LOL…
    Her reverse body wave…..ROCKS!!
    Mine……..yeah…..not so much!! LOL

Hopefully, I will be able to pull up the video later.

I agree 100%. But, remember, we ARE talking about the same fox news that actually won a lawsuit saying they have the right to knowingly report falsehoods as news. Saying whatever the heck they want, even when they know it’s total bullhooey, is pretty much their business model. (Obama-army military concentration camps for kids? REALLY??) Honestly, I think this is even more bizarre….she’s just flailing her arms and going "WILL SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?!?!"

Meanwhile "the children" are getting a great workout and thinking "what is this weirdo lady’s problem?" https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I think that its great for kids to learn how to pole. But I just have to say why would she name the classes sexy flexy?! I really dont think thats a good idea even if they are not teaching them to be sexy. And the newslady was a bitch too. =/

Okay….I can watch the video on the PC
The owner is out here………Tantra Fitness.

I still think it is a positive idea.
I would change the names of the classes for my younger groups.
    Just my thoughts………….

    Oops……Hit enter before I was done~~ lol

Anyway. the news reporter is a biiiiaaaatch. Unfortunately, Tammy probably didn’t realize what she was getting into with agreeing to do a phone interview with Fox. They were likely all sweet up front……telling her it would be great PR…………Then when they have her on the phone—WHAM! SLAM!
    UGHHH—-

I agree. The names do a disservice and I wouldn’t enroll my 9yr old to a class called "sexy flexy" or "pussycat dawls." I’m all for kids learning pole though!!!

https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif I agree! Poleing is a great workout for kids. And it reminds them of circus and gymnastics and fireman poles, not strippers or anything else they’re not supposed to be familiar with just yet. So I don’t see why they shouldn’t be allowed to learn moves, climb and play. *Sigh* closeminded ppl https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif
But I’d maybe call the classes something like Pole Play or Pole Gymnastics or w/e..

i think the owner was trying to say that these names were for the adult classes – their target of 25-40yr olds. for the kids classes i think she tried to say they called them as they were. Unfortunately the reporter wasn’t having any of it. i hate that reporters cut people off so much – every time she tried to make a valid point she was talked over. What happened to objectivity????

though she did make a valid point – if the mums think it’s ok then she’s just offering a service. I know so many people who encourage thier kids on the pole. I agree with sosagely – it’s a great way to learn strength and flexibility.

Just think about dance and gymnastics comps – heavy with makeup, wearing revealing clothes – splits and straddles are very common as is sticking your chest and bum out. so why is it that when you add a fireman’s pole that it becomes ‘wrong’.

I’m ranting way to much about this issue this week but it’s really irritating me!

Its not like the kids are wearing 6 inch heels and hair flipping and rubbing thier bodies, they are learning pole and pole only. Im not a big fan of Fox News to begin with, I always felt like thier stories are about getting thier point across and they dont care whose toes they step on. A friend of mine was interviewed for CNN and they cut alot of her interview out and she had some great things to say. (I forget exactly what they were questioning her but shes a military widow and her and her boys visit his grave weekly and a foreign figured head was there the same day she was visiting her husband) Thats how the news goes sadly.

I wouldnt have a problem taking my kids to a pole class that took the sexy out and made it like a gymnastics class. Like a Mom and Me flexibility class. I cant tell you how many times ive seen my daughter try to climb a column in a store and shes never seen me pole! Or my son whose a full on daredevil and loves hanging upside down! So what if he thinks hes https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_batman.gif or https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_spiderman.gif for a second, he would be a great poler!

I honestly dont know what to think about this topic…

For one, the news lady was RUDE!!! Ignorant to the max!

I love my pole, I will defend my pole dancing till the end! I defend it because people are STILL SO AGAINST IT! So i can see how most people are waaaay against bringing children into the studio when "adult" pole fitness classes still arent widely accepted. With that said, I think it would be a great way to tackle the childhood obesity problem since pole fitness is so dang fun! The way im looking at it is…most times when a studio has already been established with a 24-45y/o target age range, the studio is going to have some sexuality associated with it (beit the decorations, the names of the classes, the logo). When I think of a childrens fitness/gymnastics class I think bright colors, blue mats, and happy goofey music lol.

    I dont knoooooowwwwww.

The maturity of the child is also important…some 12-16 year olds may walk into the class room and immediately start grinding the poles….kids these days…and trust me, i know a couple of ’em (my lil bro is 16).

The studio i teach at is considering teaching 12-16 y/o’s and im just scared that we will get lots of bad juju for it since Texas is such a conservative state…ppl just dont get "pole fintess". I would put my kids in pole fitness classes definitely and I guess i would prepare myself to defend my childrens fitness regimen from other moms.

    dont hate me…lol https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

There is a studio near me in a very quiet town surrounded by Amish that teaches pole, silks, break dancing, juggling and stilts. Their main audience/clientele is kids and they even have summer camps aimed directly at children. Their pole class is called Acro Pole and the studio itself is not your typical female oriented space. They have some pics up on their facebook page of 2 girls that are sitting on the pole that are no more than 7-8 years old.

IF YOU DO NOT MAKE IT "DIRTY" THEN KIDS DO NOT KNOW IT IS.

While on vacation I was practicing at the playground on different types of equipment. The little girls were asking me all sorts of questions on how I could do what I did and even my niece, who is typically very timid, was hanging upside down on the jungle gym. My sister later told me that was the first time she ever did that because usually she is too scared.

I do not see a problem with pole for the kids. I myself teach bellydance to children. My youngest student is 5 years old. People still have a problem with children learning bellydance even after they have seen what bellydance really is. I wish we had a pole studio in my area. I just started pole at home and my niece is really interested she is 12 but her mom said NO WAY!! She will not let me pole if she is at my house. I told her I don’t get it. It is not dirty if you don’t make it dirty. I agree if you don’t make it dirty they will not no it is dirty.

i hate how she made it seem the suggestive named classes were specifically for kids. its like, no those classes are for adults and they bring their children when they dont have a sitter! jeez!
