High blood pressure runs in my family. My Dad's started when he was still in his 30's, my oldest brother has it, and my 2 older sisters have it.

My blood pressure had started to elevate a little over  2 years ago. I knew exercise was a good way of keeping it in check, but so many forms of exercise held no appeal.

I started my Pole Dancing journey October of 2011. My blood pressure was still elevated as of January 2012.

Well, I had a physical today, and my blood pressure is back where it should be!! I about fell off the table with joy! My doctor was so pleased, and he asked what form of exercise I was doing (I was going to tell him anyway). He looked just a liitle embarassed, but then said he had heard of it. Then he went on to say that he can really get behind the philosophy of the workout, because of the way you use your own body weight (great resistance training), it conditions your heart, keeps your bones healthy, muscles supple, and is great for your emotional well-being. Yay for my doc!!

So for any newbies out there with high blood pressure, this is just one more advantage to add to the already huge list of benefits to continuing with your pole dancing journey.

Has anyone else noticed this benefit?

That’s good news 🙂 I can’t say I’ve noticed a huge change in my bp but its usually good bit I have noticed my resting heart rate coming down from 80-90 down to 60-70ish, it was something that concerned me a little

Good point. My resting heart rate went down as well. I was so exited about the BP, I didn't even make note of it. The benefits keep piling up!!

Yes, after 8 years on high blood pressure meds I was able to go off of them and my blood pressure has been staying low. High blood pressure runs in my family as well and I developed it at age 36(even thought I was a healthy weight and did aerobic exercises). March 2012 I started my Pole journey and was able to go off my medicine in October 2012(was taken off the meds due to an allergic reaction and when I went back for a check so they could put me on a different med it was determined that my blood pressure was normal.)

I rejoice with you in your excitement.
