  • Pole Dancing with a disability……any tips?

Hi, I have been pole dancing for about 4 months, and I recently bought my own pole for home.  I have a disability so that I have 1 finger on each hand. I was wondering if anyone has any tips for gripping especially when climbing?  I use both hands to try and grip, but for now I have been relying on my legs to grip and hold me more than my hands.

    Thanks!

I think it's fine to use more of your legs to climb!  I encourage my students to use their legs more than thier arms because it'll help to not gas out so quickly and proper climbing uses quite a bit of leg power anyway.  😉  Keep poling and enjoying yourself!!!  🙂

You may be able to adapt an elbow grip to stabilize yourself, when climbing.  But that's all I use my hands for anyway, just stability.  I always climb with my legs, making contact from the bottom of my ankle to above my knee.  In fact, I think the elbow grip is good for lots of stuff.  Sometimes I shoulder mount with it.  You've got me wondering if I can ayesha with an elbow grip too. Hmmm I will try this.

Thanks for the tips! I've been working on my elbow grip but ouchhhhhh! It's mostly when I am trying to do tricks, like the carousel or the chair that I have the most problems. lol Brumby I'm glad I got you thinking about that!

You could try using spin mode instead of static for spins, this would allow you to grip the pole with the elbow too. You couldn't perform every spin this way but there would be some nice options for you. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

try working on the basic embrace, or "embrace" (on wikipole), it's essentially an elbow hold that you may be able to adapt for spins, but definately for moves, and alot of inverts can be done with the elbow grip and other hand just for stabilization.  Good luck – and way to overcome!!! love it!
