Pole Drops
Posted by Kira on June 14, 2011 at 3:29 pmHi All,
I've been trying to learn some pole drops lately and although I've found the old post about this, I was wondering if there are any new drops you really like and could share?
So far I know of Holly Drop, Shoulder mount bounce drop, Sad Girl drop, Yogini/Rocketman drop, Inverted crucifix drop, Jade drop, Remi Sit drop and Bomb drop. I think that's it… I know there's a lot of moves that you can potentially drop but I am not that adventurous to try it with all the moves!
Also, any tips for a smooth drop? I use a lot of grip because I tend to do a lot of holds so that often gets in the way of me dropping smoothly. Either that or I catch the pole too late and end up on the floor!!

I know some tricks have different names, however, have you seen or done the Superman Fall? I've only practiced it in slow motion. Too chicken to really go for it, but it's fun. I haven't heard of some of the ones you mentioned, so maybe one of them is the Superman Fall.

the inverted crucifix is also called a nosebreaker.
there's also:
chopstix drop
knee hold to outside leg hang drop
jenyne tumble (sit to flag down)
one armed elbow hold drop (start in crucifix, wrap one elbow around, arch, then drop)
split grip upright drop- ends in inside leg hang
my friend eksupar (she was in USPDF east coast 2 years ago?) does a sit drop where she has one leg straight and cranks it up to drop, not quite a sad girlnot sure if you count the trapped leg shoulder mount drop (from inverted split)?
i'm sure there's more but that's all i can think of right now! i <3 drops =)

could you post a link to the jenyne tumble/drop? I am interested….

i forgot, you can also do the tumble into a shoulder dismount =)
here's an older vid of zoraya learning it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cOW_gBPiKM might be easier for you to see the steps
and jenyne doing it at 4:15 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrBliExJ9-4

lady jean, if you can do a brass monkey and a flag, then you can do that sequence. it's not so bad! =)

Here is a tumble variation I came up with into a Shoulder Dismount https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/42f26c86-b88e-11df-856f-001b214581be

Veena, how about breaking down your tumble variation in you online lessons? That would be soooooooooooooooooooooooo awesome.

Thanks for starting this post. I was going to make a post on this. I feel like I'm stuck in learning new moves because I'm lacking the flexibility. So I feel that maybe it's time to learn some drops with what I already know. So far I can do a superman drop into inside leg hang. Well it's not much of a drop but it is to me. 😛 And it was scary to learn it. If I see any drops on youtube, I'll post and maybe someone can break it down for me. 🙂

wow, incredible. would love to learn some of these, but i don't know all the names so its hard to visualize. if there are tutorials or more youtube sequences, i'd love to see them.

3:12 is the best drop ever but I can't really see how it's done, it looks like he turns away from the pole first. Either way it's faaaar too advanced for me!and think most of you have seen charley's tut on the remi sit drop. I think it's gorgeous (if slightly painful!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fs5REv6mwnY
I can do only do yogini/rocketman drops and drops from the top down into floor splits but I still struggle with finding the right balance of letting go enough to drop and stopping the drop. If I can get an example of my (crappy) drops I'll post it up so you can see what I mean!

Wow!!
3:12 in Edward Doye's video is a Chinese pole move. It's a back turn to a donut (what we call a cradle).
You can find pictures of a back turn in this manual for Chinese poles, along with a few unusual and VERY advanced drops: http://www.fedec.eu/datas/files/m5(uk).pdf … don't get any ideas, USE A CRASH MAT if you try these!! 🙂

I don't know if it's considered a drop, but the combo I love doing at the moment is a no handed cradle on spinning into a scorpio.
