  • Pole Issues With Landlords & Neighbors?

For all you renters and apartment-dwellers out there, have any of your landlords or neighbors ever had any issues with you and your home pole? My X-Pole is on its way and I realize that those tension / screw-in models don't really cause any damage to ceilings or walls, but I'm on the third floor of my building, so I am a teensy bit concerned with making too much noise with my feet while practicing…might cause some complaints! Anyone dealt with that before?

Nope, I've never had any complaints. I live on the first floor, so my less-graceful dismounts don't cause a problem, but I do like to blast my music while I dance. Maybe I just have really great neighbors, haha. Maintenance has also been in my apartment many times and walked right passed my pole, so I know management knows I have it. Haven't gotten any notices so everything is fine, I guess!

I think your neighbors will tolerate some clunking if you keep your practice to normal hours.

I'm on the third floor, and I've never had any complaints, but my neighbors are also kind of relaxed.  I do worry about the noise when I do handsprings, so I just try to practice during daytime/evening hours, and I use my mat for most other things, since it's quiter to land on.  If I practice in heels (on the hardwood floor) I definitely do it during the day.

I’m on second floor in a 3 floor building never had any complaints but I pole barefoot on carpeted floors. My popcorn ceiling has a lil popcorn missing where my xpole dome goes but you have to stare to notice it. I take my pole down when the landlord has to come in usually though.

When I got my Xpole, I had to take down a fan to put it up.  I mentioned this to my landlord and he said "Be honest–you're putting up a sex swing, aren't you?"

So, he's pretty cool about it, hahaha.

I am on the 3rd floor, and I actually asked my apartments to take down my ceiling fan so I could have more room (which they did).  Never had a complaint from neighbors and I suppose as far as damage is concerned, it depends on what type of pole you have.  Mine is an x-pole and it's tension mounted so no damage.

I live in a rental. Thankfully, our landlords are very hands off, so they haven't even been over to visit since we signed the lease over a year ago. We took down a ceiling fan in one bedroom to make room for my pole. At first I was kind of sad, because it was the only ceiling light fixture, and having a fan in the room would make it a lot more comfortable during workouts. Then in the process of removing the fan, my husband discovered that it was never anchored to the electrical box properly, and every time I used it there was a risk of it flying off. LOL… installing my pole actually made the house safer.

portableninja: I invested in a small room heater and this bad boy: http://www.target.com/p/honeywell-turboforce-2-in-1-air-circulator/-/A-11153541#?lnk=sc_qi_detaillink

The room heater works great to get everything to a nice tempeture and the fan keeps the air moving once I'm moving.  The two heads on it swivle in different directions so it's super awesome.  Highly recommend.

Nice! That fan looks awesome. I have a Lasko tower fan that does a good job of circulating the air. I get pretty sweaty, so sometimes I'll just stop and sit down in front of the fan until I dry off!

Thanks so much, you guys! Sounds like it's just a case of exercising common sense here 🙂 I'm also thinking of buying a couple more yoga mats to creat a little DIY crash pad that might also muffle any noise through the floor…

No problems whatsoever in my apartment, but when I moved the position of the pole by about a foot I noticed a slightly discolored ring on the ceiling from the rubber ring on the dome. It's still there and eventually will need to be painted over after I move out :/

It's a new model X-pert by the way, real one not a knock-off.

maurer rose – mine's the same, I've wiped the dome to make sure it was clean but it still leaves a mark so I'll have to paint my ceiling too when I leave lol

No real complaints. Thankfully, my manager likes me. I did accidentally break my ceiling with my pole. I was off by a few inches of the stud and the plate pushed in. They didn't get too upset. But did of course charge me for the repair.

I'm on the third floor and haven't had any complaints. Though, to be fair, my hopping dog proabbly makes more noise that I do.
