I am about to have my first child, and miss my pole workouts MADLY. I also have some stretch marks on thighs/buttocks, how does Veena look so amazing after her kiddos?! I need to know! lol. Thx in advance, -Pole momma to be.

I had to take a break my first two or three months pregnant because of how sick I got so while I haven't had my baby yet I have a few recommendations. Commit to doing a certain number of different moves on certain days of the week (like x amount of pole holds or front hooks) and let yourself be super pleased with being sore the next day. You'll gradually work up if you keep a positive outlook 🙂 I also lost my splits during that time and wrote a blog post about how I got them back: http://www.flexines.net/2013/06/i-lost-flexibility-now-what.html

The stretch marks will fade some, I don't think there is much you can do to eliminatet them completely short of buying uber expensive creams that are not safe for breastfeeding moms or having plastic surgery. You've got mama tiger stripes <3 I believe ab work will help with tightening your skin too, so slowly getting back into pole should take care of that. HTH!

I really didn't pole too much during my last pregnancy (with the exception of the 1st trimester) because we moved across the country and there just wasn't time! But when I did have a chance this is how I approached it. I stuck with moves I was totally comfortable with. I stopped inverting and climbing high when my 2nd trimester came around. If you have issues with your joints feeling loose, (do to hormones) then you might want to back off on the spins as well, but I was fine. I focused on "dancing" and not so much tricks. I did squats with the pole and worked on maintaining pretty feet and hands while dancing. I only pole danced through my last pregnancy because I hadn't discovered pole when I was pregnant with the others.  But with any exercise while pregnant, keep hydrated, don't over heat and BREATH. Avoid doing exercises on your back after the 1st trimester.

Anyway…..As far as getting back into it after baby, once your given the ok from your Midwife or DR for exercise, I would totally recommend the 30 day take off program! https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/50e4694e-a85c-4fa0-8e66-61940ac37250 If you have abdominal separation you'll want to avoid any ab work like sit ups and crunches.

I have stretch marks and extra skin, it's part of having kids for many women, and for some they stick around. I'm ok with my marks https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif I did a video called your belly after baby that has tips for "hiding" the extra skin and puckering from stretch marks. https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/d650d310-c3b4-11df-bc90-001b21721e0c https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Veena – I watched your video and just wanted to say that you are an absolute wonder. Your openness and courage gives you a strength that is all of your own, and utterly tangible.

I’m not a mommy (yet), but Veena! Your video was great! I didn’t know poling during pregnancy was even possible! I hope I’m brave enough to not care and do videos after I have babies.

There is also the JW method which is a great way to stay toned and show your pole some love during pregnancy without much risk of injury.  I think the website is http://www.jmexps.com

I'm currently about 20 weeks, and am still poling! I've still been going to my advanced class and doing tricks, but certain things have gotten more challenging week by week.  For now it's: don't do anything to risk a fall (new tricks/times my grip doesn't feel secure), don't do any moves/tricks that put pressure on the belly, and don't do it if it doesn't feel comfortable.
In a few more weeks, I'll be going back to beginner classes, and a beginner choreography class.  It will actually be a really great opportunity to freshen up all the spins and floor work I've forgotten since then… 🙂

I can't wait to get back to pole and aerial silks after I have my little girl – I plan to take it slow, and work back up from beginner, to intermediate, and back up to advanced where I was before.

During the rest of my pregnancy and as soon as I'm cleared by my doctor after, there are a lot of other great classes at my gym that I'll be taking to keep/build back my strength!

Oh and if you haven't seen the Veena pregnancy pole videos you're missing out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyFK907b4Qc and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPL1gikIZUQ <–The second one is my personal favorite. So ethereal and she still makes everything look so easy.
