Pole Rut…Me Rut !
Posted by unicorn on April 8, 2011 at 4:18 amHi Pole friends …
Well 2 months have past since I have been on the pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
I hurt my shoulder/ wrist a while back , Gave me no choice but to stay off the pole, 8 to 9 weeks it took for my shoulder to feel better.. Still have pain in my wrists..
I haven't done any exercise , strength training, nothing!!
I put on a stone and a half stopping smoking, I feel Fat, unattractive and just no will to dance or anything
My problem is I have so much weight to lose and toning up to do. I just do not know where to start..
I hate feeling like this about myself..just seem to be getting more down as the days go on…
I visit SV daily and watch all the new Videos put on here and wished I could get out this rut and get on with Pole dancing..I see new girls uploading first videos and they have all over taken me.. Im back to the start again…
How do I lift myself out of this Rut..?

I disagree! You said you stopped smoking. That's wonderful. It's a huge accomplishment, and a great way to better yourself! It is also partly to blame for the weight gain, and the "down" feelings. Smile and congratulate yourself for doing something so difficult. How long have you been smoke free? It only gets easier, so don't give in! 🙂
So you injured yourself, it happens. Don't worry about the strength and the tricks, I know it's easier said than done but try. It will all come back, and it will come back WAY faster the second time around. Find some music that you really like, and that you can just "let go" to. Start walking around the pole, let yourself get into the music. Just do transitions, floorwork, maybe some basic spins. Rediscover why you loved pole the first time around. 🙂

Thanks dustbunny
I was still learning last time round.. So didn't get very far!
I gave up smoking in Sept.. I tied 5 times in the past to give up, last time being for 5 months , I started again, Always crave a ciggy.
This time I don't crave, I don't want one..I will never smoke again , Its just the weight gain I hate.
I have gone from being quite toned and in shape to bigger, untoned and wobblier.. (lol)
I think to be honest its a combination of stopping and my age. Im 41 and I do think I have the middle age spread. its all around my middle.. bum tum thighs Actually its everywhere, my face, arms. I catch a look at my self sometimes in the mirror and my face is terrible, so round..
So unhappy
Thanks for comment..
I will try just having a dance around the pole, So difficult in this house with children everywhere ..
THANKS AGAIN X

Hey sweetheart.
I know at times it can really feel hopeless but all you can do when it gets to that point is say to yourself 'I will overcome this' and do it.
If the London pole jam goes ahead you should def. join! I'm sure it would to a world of good having pole buddies to play with. =)

Don't feel down https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gifI have had to start over so many times its not funny. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif I think almost all of us have points when we just get going on something and we have to stop for one reason or another. If your shoulder is finally better say "today is the day" and go for it. The first day back on the pole is usually frustrating but it does get better! Just avoid spins if your shoulder has been an issue. Also, I use to get down on myself for feeling down!! But now when I have my "off" days or weeks I just let it happen and know its ok, and we can't beat ourselves up over our feeling. Everyone gets down sometimes, you have friend here though https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

I can totally understand…It seems like every time I make some great progress, I stop. I just stopped the last couple of weeks, due to moving house, getting sick, and having elbow issues (which I assume is pole elbow!). It's frustrating, because you know it's good for you, but you just can't seem to get going again!
I think this happens to a lot of artists…and I consider dancing of all forms an art. We get burnt out, and have a hard time getting back to it!
I think you should be kind to yourself; quitting smoking is a huge leap in and of itself, and smoking is an appetite suppressant…you'll gain weight, because suddenly, you feel as hungry as you should have been feeling in the first place! Think about all the energy you'll have once everything reaches equilibrium again!
And, besides that, I like women with a little meat on them…and all the guys I know (seriously, every one of them) do too! Those wobbly bits can be put to good use https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif
Just try to think of all the good things, instead of all the bad things. It's not that you're ignoring the bad stuff, just choosing not to dwell on it…and choosing to dwell on the good stuff, because it's good!
And, if you like, you can do things around pole dancing that isn't pole dancing, perhaps to bring yourself around to it again. Perhaps try choreographing to a song? Polish your pretty shoes? Think about ways you could jazz up an old move? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

hey sues, congratulations on quitting smoking!! that is a HUGE accomplishment. i've had some friends who have done it. try eating celery or carrot sticks (you can't gain weight no matter how much you eat), i remember when i was in high school this really helped me to lose weight!! and anyway, as soon as you get going on the pole again, i'm sure you will be feeling better about yourself. do you have any exercise dvd's? i like to do sheila kelley's S factor 2 dvd workout, but with my own music playing. i tend to get lazy and have to force myself to exercise, so the dvd really helps.

Hi Sues, Like everyone said…..it WILL come back! What's happening now is that everything is snowballing on you, you have a lot of things going on at once and that can feel overwhelming and very 'downing' (is that a word? lol). You are very young!! I can say that cuz I'm 48!! And you are a very sweet, kind person!! Go easy on yourself and take one step at a time…you'll get there!! xoxo
