Pole Stage Material
Posted by emotioncatcher on August 24, 2011 at 9:17 amHello!
I want a freestanding pole, but as they are soooo expensive, my dads wants to build one for me. we will build something i can put around my xpole and wonder which material we should use for the stage.
does anyone know what stages are normally made of?
Best regards!

I know of a few people (years ago) who used this website to build a stage pole. I cannot endorse this and would suggest saving any money you would spend on building this to buy a proper stage pole. One thing to consider….the bottoms of both the XStage and the PS SSA have additional metal that sticks up into the pole where the stage meets it. I would never want to place a point of impact on a hollow section of pole, which will happen if you put a stage around your X. There is a very good chance that you will bend the A piece where it meets the stage, especially on moves that exert a lot of horizontal force (pretty much ANY spin).

I used the jay silver planse to build a platform that my pole sat on – not went through and it was sturdy. I don't think I would want to put a multi piece pole through a box tho because like chemmie says the A pole could bend.
If you're going to use the jay silver plans I would suggest buying a one piece pole for it and following the directions to secure the pole inside the box.

thanks for your answers. i never thought the pole could bend, because the x pole x stages have two-piece-poles too. we want to make a seperate tube around the lower part of the pole, when we make it high enough the pole won´t bend anymore hopefully
we won´t use any plans of the internet as they all seem to be made for amateurs who just need them for fun and parties ^^
we wanted to make it of metal, my dad knows someone who can weld everything together if we buy the materials. i thought about stainless steel or aluminium.
i also thought of buying a one-piece pole and to powder coat it, but i´m not sure wheather the grip would be good on it…
as a student saving for a xpole would take forever …. and the shipping to germany is really expensive (about 180 pounds)

Yes, the stage poles are 2 pieces BUT there is a heavy metal rod that runs inside the pole where the most pressure would be exerted against the stage. Essentially this is like a solid metal piece, not hollow like the rest of the X pieces.
Have you ever priced out sheets of aluminum or steel? Wood is going to be cheaper and easier to move around. In order to get sheet metal thick enough to support the weight of a person standing on it it is going to be extremely heavy.

a watched a youtube assembly video and saw what you mean with the metal rod. maybe i´ll save money for a original pole, so this would be just a temporary solution and hope that my pole will last until i can buy one ^^…
my dad will order the metal pieces at the business where he works so we will get it a bit cheaper. about 150-200€ should be totally enough i think (instead of 750€ for a xpole x stage shipped to me).
we could make the covers out of wood and only the rest of metal. i also thought about not covering it at all (we want to make it with long legs like the star stand alone). i don´t touch often the ground while i pole and could also just cover it with some mats. i already have some i can put around my pole.
