  • Pole Studios in Washington, DC?

Posted by HilaryKate aka LolaSlaytor on January 26, 2015 at 5:51 pm

I’m planning a trip with one of my best friends for May long weekend and we are planning to go to Washington, DC. As per usual, I always want to scope out the pole scene when I travel, so I’m wondering if anyone has any tips or info about pole studios there? General tips about fun stuff to do in the city would be welcomed too!

I definitely recommend Pole Pressure. It is a reputable chain of the studios. I have only been to the downtown location and it’s great! The owner is Jessalyn Medairy, you can find her on Facebook.

Plus one for Pole Pressure. I take classes at Pole Pressure Richmond but occasionally Jessalynn comes down to participate and she pretty cool.

Pole Pressure DC is probably the best known in DC. If you are going to venture outside of DC to the Virginia side, then I highly recommend one of DivaFit’s studios.

As for fun stuff to do, well all of the Smithsonian museums and the National Zoo, monuments, waterfront restaurants in Georgetown (with a quick stop to the Exorcist steps). If you are looking for concerts, check out the 9:30 Club to see who’s in town that weekend.

If you venture to the Maryland side, I would suggest the Xpose studios. There is one right next to arundel mills, one of our largest outlet malls. Or there is one near Baltimore. Pole Pressures are pretty good but the xpose studios have morning and afternoon classes which may give you more flexibility time-wise.

We won’t be renting a car, and my friend doesn’t pole (although she is a dancer, and when we went to Vegas a few years ago, I convinced her to do a semi-private with Jenyne Butterfly and she ROCKED IT)… so probably would prefer something downtown. I was wondering about Pole Pressure, so it’s great to see all the recommendations! Is there anywhere that I can find a list and bios for the instructors at Pole Pressure? I’d probably be trying to schedule a private, so it would be great to know about that stuff in order to get the most out of it. A class is an option, but if I try to get my friend to tag along with me, privates are the only thing that would work since our skill levels are so far apart.
Celticgal – what are the Exorcist steps??

LolaSlaytor, the three main Pole Pressure sites in DC are; downtown, Capitol Hill, and Cleveland Park. Pole Pressure used to have instructor “bios” on their website, but with their expanding business locations I think that has been discontinued. I would recommend that you ask for Crystal as a private instructor. I personally haven’t trained with her, but everything that I’ve heard about Crystal is very good. She’s a great lady. I’ve seen her at competitions and she’s a lot of fun to be with. Plus, she could give you lots of tips on places to eat, what to see, clubs, etc.

The “Exorcist Steps” are in the Georgetown area near the river. Lots of history, restaurants, and sight-seeing in this area. Ask one of the locals and they’ll be glad to tell you where the steps are located. It’s worth a few photo’s with your friend.

Pole Pressure was the first studio that I went to when I started pole fitness. It’s a very progressive, and well run organization. Unfortunately, the Leesburg, Virginia studio closed in 2013. The other PP studio’s are a long commute for me. Have a fun trip. Enjoy DC and I hope you have a great time poling at Pole Pressure.

Chic Physique has a new location in DC and is now an Aerial Arts Acsdemy offering silks and lyra. I have studied there for a long long time and the instructors there are awesome.

I was unaware that Tina had a Chic Physique location in DC, ofezo. Thank you for mentioning this addition for LolaSlaytor. LolaSlaytor, now you have 4 possible studios to go to? That is a target-rich pole studio environment. Have fun.

I would also recommend Pole Pressure on 14th Street. Great quality of instruction, fun atmosphere.
