Pole after Mastectomy Surgery
Hi fellow polers!
I’m in the process of recovering from a double mastectomy surgery and have my final surgery for my permanent implants coming up in mid July. Basically I’ve had my pectoral muscles expanded to form my new breast, which involves extensive damage and stretching to my pec muscles.
I’m wondering if there are any polers out there who have gone through a similar mastectomy surgery and returned to pole afterwards. I was wondering what their recovery was like and their journey back to pole?
Prior to my surgery, I was an intermediate 3 student who could comfortably invert/straddle aerially and was starting to learn shoulder mount etc.
Strength wise, I’m now basically a beginner and can’t mount the pole due to the damage done to my pec muscles.
I’m hoping that I’ll be able to return to my previous strength over an extended period of time, but I don’t know anyone who has been through my surgery so there is a lot of unknown in terms of whether I will ever be able to return to normal pole activities.
Would love to hear from polers with shared experiences 🙂
