Ran into a really big problem.

I’ve had my X Pole for years and never had any problems with the ceilings until now. We just moved into a new apartment yesterday and put the pole up, and today there are cracks around the dome and I’m really worried. I’m going to take it down and have my boyfriend repair it the ceiling. It’s a slightly textured ceiling, and I know you can buy repair sprays and putty for that.

I realize now that I probably overtightened it and didn’t put it between the beams. I’m too scared to take it down right now. Attached is a picture of a crack pretty far from the dome, and there’s also a crack that I’m pretty sure runs across the whole dome. When I do get the courage to take it down, what are the odds of creating a hole? I wish I’d researched this more. We put down a security deposit, but it’d be such a shame to lose it in the first day.

It’s pretty common for ceilings to get small cracks in like that so don’t panic! I imagine as the other poster said, no one else would really notice.

I had my dad screw my pole into my apartment ceiling. When I move out I’m just going to fill the holes in with putty or repaint over it with some popcorn ceiling paint. Renters know that wear and tear will happen. I wouldn’t worry about it.

I’ve had this happen. The odds of it creating a hole: very slim. But you really should take it down asap because the continuous pressure in an unreinforced part of the ceiling is only going to make it worse. Put it back up under a joist/ beam (use a stud finder). Dab some spackle just along the crack or you can even use some whiteout with a brush. I doubt anyone will notice.
