So i'm hopefully entering a pole competition and, I've just realised that you have to pick a theme, which the song and costume should go with. I really have no idea where to go with this. In terms of songs I was thinking of maybe something by santogold, but I really cant choose, I don't even have a shortlist!

As you are all so creative, does anyone have any ideas in terms of themes and how they could tie in with costume/songs? Maybe people who have done competitions could let me know how they have gotten on it terms of themes?

    Thanks 🙂

I normally pick my song first then draw ideas for the costume from the song itself or the video.  I did a performace with the song 2 Hearts by Kylie Minogue.  To me it had a burlesque kind of vibe, and I had some visions of Moulin Rouge in my mind.  So I wore what in my profile pic plus black gloves that I took off in the begining.  When I did my video for Gods Gonna Cut You Down by Johnny Cash, I watched the video to get some inspiration.  The video was done in black and white so I did that as well.

When I pick my music, my music normally comes out and suprises me.  Sometimes I will hear something and it clicks that I should do that song.

I chose the outfit first then the song. First it was a pin up look so I chose a kinda raw sexy rock song because I always connect pin up with rock and roll.

Then I also did the same for battle of the pole. I chose a pretty plain black bikini with a bit fancier top with sequins wich I think could go with almost anything really.

Just be sure that you dance to the music, that is the most important I would think and as long as you dont wear a monokini to a burlesque song for example or something that doesnt really fit together.
