Ok, so, I know I know, I should know how to tighten and assemble my pole, but my boyfriend is a marine engineer and when he set it up he wouldn't even let me look at the instructions(not did he) or do anything other than hold the pole. Now, because of something beyond our control, he is out to sea and I am here.  I was practicing today and I heard my pole creak and it freaked me out.  I got the manual and tried to insert the allen(hex) key and tighten the joints, but they must be expanded enough already because they wouldn't budge. I got the tighten/release rod out and started turning clockwise to tighten the pressure on the top plate.  But I'm afraid of over tightening. The adjuster still moved when I turned it. How do I know when it's tight enough? Will it stop moving or is that too tight? Please, help, I've got no one here to help me and I only have 6 more weeks with my pole before I leave again. 🙁

It could be TOO tight. It could be your ceiling flexing. Honestly, watch the x pole set up video on their website and reinstall it. It should be tight enough that you can gorilla shake it without it slipping, and doing a spin without it slipping. Once it is to that point, turn the pole to alight the screws with the flat part of the adjuster rod.

Thanx. I thnk it's the ceiling that's creaking. I don't think the pole slips when in spin but it hard to tell when on it. I'll have my boyfriend's dad look at it.

I'd say it's also likely that it's overtight. I had this issue with a pole of mine. It was so tight the ceiling would creak and it didn't spin properly. But if you're nervous, try calling X-Pole's customer support like I did, having never set up an X-Pole myself lol. They are very helpful and will help you safely figure out what is wrong.

Thanx a bunch, Krysten!  His parents came round and fixed the creaking. Lol
