Unfortunately, many of my students and fellow polers have mentioned that they were at one point sexually assaulted. Many of them have said pole has helped them get through this experience. I want to take that postive feeling of empowerment pole gives and provide it to other people who have suffered through this.

I am organizing a free, therapeutic pole class for survivors of sexual assault (completely volunteer program). I am meeting with a psychology professor who specializes in PTSD and sexual assault to get her assistance in planning this class which is scheduled to start this fall. In order to get her full support, I need to have "evidence" backing up my claim.

I have created a survey that allows people to anonymously discuss how pole has affected their recovery from sexual assaults. It is really short- 6 questions, 2 of which are optional, and 3 are multiple choice.  I would really, really appreciate I could get all of your help! Please spread this survey around among your pole communities so I can get support in this endeavor.

I completely admire you for this! Pole can be healing for a sexual assault survivor, reconnecting with your body and sensuality is key to recovery and finding yourself again. Thank you for this idea, I will take and pass your survey along 🙂

I have also had students that are sexual assault survivors and I have seen how pole can heal. Good for you to create such a class! Empowerment, for some people, is worth more than anything.

i am a survivor of both sexual assault and domestic abuse. have no self esteem i won’t even leave my house unless i have to. and well no friends because of pole i will go out for classes and i joined things like this site. both things domestic and sexual abuse changes u makes u scared and don’t trust but also how u look and think about yourself. i have three beautiful kids and want to show them that i am strong and to care and love yourself pole is helping me to do that. just thought might help if you knew pole helps with more then recovering from sexual assault but domestic abuse too having gone through both myself

Korinne had posted on FB that the definition of sexual abuse is not just rape but can also include inappropriately being touched or having someone expose themselves to you.
