My left handed fingers are killing me today and kept waking me up last night. Yesterdays practice was a short calm one (that was after 2 rest days) and didn’t start hurting till about 6.30pm i polled at 10.30am.

As everyone knows trying to describe pain is not that easy but i guessing it my joints?!? Feels sore and very stiff. Never had any joint pains before so its a bit odd…
Only thing i can think i have been doing differently is headstand dead lifts But surly thats not the problem?? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kw9b00ZcHG8

Anyone know or had the same problem?

Meg, this may be something totally different but when I first started pole I had some pretty intense hand/joint pain for a solid month or so. I would wake up after a evening practice session feeling like someone hit my hands with a hammer. It finally went away, I think my body had a hard time adjusting. You have already been poling for a bit so it doesn’t sound like the same thing but I thought I might share.

Maybe not alone then – Yeah been pole dancing 7 months now – even my wrist is 100% fine just my fingers. One min its fine then next they are so sore. BUT they are the only things is dont warm up to before pole – i get to wrist then forget i have fingers. maybe should have been giving them some wiggles before pole? would that have even made a difference. |(typing one handed is not fun nor are forced rest days haha) x

Im not sure if this is related, but it sounds like we are experiancing the same type of pain. I have been poleing for years, and from time to time Id have slightly sore hands, but nothing that really bothered me, but recently ive been trying other things such as aerial hoop and silks. After the last silks class i took my hands, particularly my fingers (in the joints), has been very stiff and painful to bend, especially when i first wake up in the morning. Im a bit conserned, and have had to cancel my last couple aerial classes as to not aggravate them any further, which has really really bummed me out! I hope they are just sore from me death griping the silks, and that i havent done any serious damage to them. If anyone knows what this might be from or how to prevent this happening everytime, id love to know!

Finger stiffness upon awakening is a classic symptom of rheumatoid arthritis. Pain waking you from sleep is definitely something to see a doctor about. Is there swelling? I would suggest seeing your primary care doc or rheumatologist if this persists.

Rang the doc yesterday next appointment was in 2 and half weeks – (My love hate relationship with the NHS grows)so i said i would leave it and if it get worse in meantime go to my local minor injury place. BUT saying that i have woke up today and they are about 95% better. Im pretty sure it was dead lift headstands – i was not engaging core enough and using finger to bear some weight/balance while lifting as that’s the only position they hurt in (headstand position). That causing the so kind of seize up for a couple of days. Thats my 100% guess im far from any expert. Say all that my grandmother suffers from rheumatoid arthritis so im hoping its not that and i just done some minor damage x
