Of course, I'm sure the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks. I haven't had children yet, but after I do, I would definitely consider an IUD and I would be sure to ask for pain medication during the insertion. I just find it kind of amusing that in order to avoid the pain of childbirth, you need to endure the pain of almost childbirth. Right now my current method of BC (swallowing a pill every morning) has a pain level of zero. That's pretty hard to beat 😉
I think I have a pretty high pain tolerance, although pole has certainly tested it. I've gotten laser hair removal and waxing and I think plenty of pole moves hurt more. Meanwhile my mom is horrified by the pain of waxing and probably would refuse to do a pole sit, but she delivered two kids naturally with no pain meds. Go figure!

You no longer have to have had a baby to get an IUD. I have not had kids and I have a mirena. I will say, the insertion sucked, but it could have bee worse. It was a huge cramp initially, and perisitent cramping for a week later (for me.) most ladies get 1-3 days of cramps, I had an entire week. My body is a pain in the ass though.

Not to side track this but I am on my second Mirena and I have not had children. It is not supposed to be as painful for those who have had their cervix stretched. My first one was not horrible going in but I had ridiculous cramps for about 3 months during when I should have had my period. I used to get bad cramps on about day 2 but this was different….more like really bad gas/bloating/constipation type pain. My second was a nightmare but I attribute that to the doc I had. First she had problems getting my first one out which was a nightmare. Then I had to wait 10 days for them to order it for me and go back in for the insertion. She botched the insertion and I had to wait another 10 days for a new IUD. They gave me a pill that is typically used to induce labor (I think it was cytotec) which basically made me feel like I was having contractions for a day but made the insertion go with out a hitch. Not without pain, but without a hitch. I also insisted that the first doc did not do the insertion, I wanted someone with a little more experience as the first was skittish and made me uncomfortable.

Snowboarding Accident: 9 – I caught and edge and tumbled, my board opened up my forehead and exposing my skull and I tore up the tendons in my left hip. This sucked hard core. Trying to walk out of the hospital almost made me faint.
SI Joint Issues after marathon: 10 (I'd like to qualify this by saying I haven't had any babies) – Never in my life have I been unable to do something due to pain. I usually force myself and I usually can do that. But after the marathon I couldn't stand up straight. No matter how hard I tried.

Body piercings: 4-ish max
Orbital ear cartilage piercing: 7 – this was botched. It was hysterically painful.

Resetting Broken Arm: 7 – The breaking didn't hurt, I remember not knowing there was a problem until I looked at my arm, which had grown a new elbow.
My Tiny Foot/Low Back Tattoos: 3 – I was so worried, and it was absolutely no big deal.
Learning Knee Hold: 6
Initial Superman Attempts: 5
Catcher's Rollup in Trapeze Ropes: 7

When it is something medical I am a wimp especially stomach involved things like aches, cramps, contractions I guess because my body sends the "something is wrong" signals for those things but with pole, piercings and tattoos since it is voluntary I can talk myself through the pain and know nothing is wrong and get through it easier.

Friendly reminder for those depending on IUD to keep you pregnancy free right now. Check your strings. Mine fell out and baby number 3 resultedhttps://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif I don't remember much from the insertion except mild cramping but I also had it done while I was having the spinal headache from a botched epidural so maybe it was masking the pain.

We call it the coil. I had been considering it recently, I’m not too sure anymore! Really surprised how popular they are in the US. Is this because of cost efficiency? The NHS pays for most contraceptives here so I don’t think cost is part of our decisions.
