  • Pole skirts or skorts?

Hi! Been lurking a while, but I have a question I’m hoping someone may be able to help with. I’ve been taking pole classes for about seven months now, recently added an in home pole. I have a few shorts for dancing, but between the mirrors and videos I take and just general comfort I think I might be looking at my pole wear from the wrong angle. I dance with confidence when I feel confident. I’m a skirt and dress type of person and I can feel my comfort go down and my awkwardness on the pole go up in just the pole shorts.

This brings me to the question – has anyone found any skirts or skorts that work well on the pole? I found some on a dance wear site, but I’m not sure how that would translate to pole. I did grab a short tutu style skirt I had for one home session and it was one of my best because of how much better I felt. I would love to find something that could work like that for classes and home practice. Even something like a tulle skirt that I could layer over pole shorts without restricting movement would be amazing.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Mika yoga wear used to have a skort on their website. I bought one a year ago. it looks like a mini-skirt. it’s perfect for pole. doesnt get in the way.

I just checked their website. they still have it . it is called the Sierra Skort. it is not a flowy ballerina type skirt though. not sure if that was what you meant. it is a short mini skirt with shorts built in. http://www.mikayogawear.com/product/shorts/sierra-skort.php

Those are adorable! I had found some like these http://www.dancewearsolutions.com/bottoms/s3648.aspx and this http://www.dancewearsolutions.com/bottoms/skirts/mt2789.aspx, but I wasn’t sure if they would end up restricting movement or not. I have the Mika shorts that I’ve been pretty happy with, so I might need to try their skort.

Check out ice skating skirts. They are short enough and flowy. You may also like some of the running skorts or cheerleading skorts. Also, once Target gets their summer stock in they have a lot of really cute bathing suit bottoms with skirts.

kparker, those are cute! I’ve honestly never tried anything like that while poling so it would be hard to say if it would get in the way or not.

my friend is dancing in regular clubwear dresses and shoes not specifically made for pole. Looks very classy and cool when someone approaching a pole dressed like a teacher and does quiet a number
I think you can dance just in about anything as long as its functional and has a right texture.
Long puffy skirts though dont really win a look in a performance. But may be it’s just my taste..

I have a dance skort but found it’s useless for pole. As soon as I invert, the skirt part falls down over my torso, so going into a leg hang from there doesn’t work because I can’t possibly get any side grip with slick cloth between my skin and the pole. I feel like invert to Gemini is such a basic transition into other moves that if I can’t do that, what’s the point? If you do a lot of advanced hands-only moves and/or mainly just spins and floor work, it could work.
Also, it could just be that style. It’s possible that the Mika skort is a bit tighter and doesn’t fall “up”, and Chem is right that bathing suit bottom skirts might work great. You won’t ever know until you try. It really depends on the structure of the skort and your dancing style/favorite moves. I just know that I won’t be purchasing any more skorts myself.

I agree with too loose being a problem. I have a couple of speedo bathing suit bottoms with attached skirts that I bought hoping to use for pole, and even for me (a beginner still learning basic things) the skirts get in the way. I might try tightening them or adding ruching, but I’m not sure it’s worth doing.

I have 3 pole skorts and this is my favourite http://www.jdsports.co.uk/product/pure-simple-sport-poly-skort/102122/ I still use it for climbs and inverts. The other 2 I now keep for pole play or heels choreo. They are lovely wee skorts and very pretty but not great for climbing, aerial spins or inverts.

I have changed to these http://www.everythingpoledancing.com/product/tiesideshorts and love them. They are the best.
