Poling @ Local Studio or StudioVeena?
Posted by JustLovingIt29 on July 4, 2011 at 9:14 pmHey!
So I began poling back in May of 2009. I took classes for a month and loved it. However, I was not able to afford the classes so I never went back. I just put up my xpole up again and I am beginning to get my motivation for pole again.
My concern is this> Should I pay for classes at the local studio or will I get the same from doing the lessons that Veena provides?
I know it is a matter of dedication and how much I put into it, but I just want to know if going to a studio for the classes will make any difference. Personally, I will prefer to do it from home because it will be cheaper in the long run. =0)
Thank you ahead of time.

Well, I know Veena is a great instructor. Plus you can watch, rewatch and view her lessons anytime day or night. I am learning a LOT from her (for my age). One thing I do miss and never had the oppourtunity to do is GO to a studio. I think it would be fun to meet people and be in that environment but for me the drive would be 3 hours to the closest studio and if financially if its a strap for you to attend I would say go with the lessons!
You will get a ton of support, experts from all over the world to help with moves etc. plus you will make friends here as well….just not in person.

Hello!
There are many things to factor in when deciding… I love Veena's lessons and have found them to be very helpful. I have had those 'ah ha' moments from her lessons that I did not get in a class. I will continue her lessons even if I pick up a class or two every now and again.
I would go to a studio only if the instructors created a safe and challenging environment. When in class you can get real time feedback that is unique to you, spotting and get other pointers on your form. Classes can be an amazing resource.
I like what you say how about dedication… so true that we influence our results regardless of the instruction we receive.
Let us know what you decide and happy poling!

I have Veena's lessons and I love them. She goes over each move thoroughly and really emphasizes proper body mechanics. Plus the stretching lessons are GOLD!! The one thing you can't get through online lessons is real life interactions with others. Sometimes, it is nice to have support when you're suffering from pole burn and bruises. It's also helpful to watch others dance and draw inspiration from them. And like JeHanne said, you get immediate feedback when you take classes.
I did take one 8-week session at a local studio, and it was wonderful, but I opted to continue my pole dance learning with Veena's lessons. It is one hell of a bargain for such excellent instruction, you can move at your own pace, and there isn't a weekly commitment. $99 for one year- heck yes! If I could afford studio classes and had the patience to deal with Chicago traffic, then I might pick studio classes. I plan on jumping into a pole tricks class every once in a while just to make sure I'm doing everything correctly.

I say get veena’s lessons, and when there is a move you want personal help with, go take a class and ask them for help.

Ladies, thank you ALL so much! I have been thinking about it and I think it will be better to go with Veena's lessons. And you all did a great job at convincing me. So, let's see how long till I am motivated enough to put a video up here. Hopefully insecurities won't get the best of me.
I didn't think of going to the local studio whenever I need help with a move. That is great advice =0)
Thank you ALL! =0)

I go to a studio and have Veena's lessons. It is whatever works for you.

I have both. Studio lessons can get pricey and time consuming (full time job and kids make it difficult to drive to the studio consistently.) So…I purchased veena’s year long membership and still go to a studio 3 or 4 times a month. I love this site but its also amazing to take a pole class with other people.

if the local studio offers drop in, id say do both. That way you can make it a win win. After all the rave reviews of Veenas lessons, im tempted to get them myself. I do pole at home once a week and sometimes I feel like im not sure what I should work on.
going to class will get that socialization that youd want. I go to class once a week, not only for the hands on but for the social aspect too. I dont get out much to begin with so thats the only time I get to fully interact with people.

Veena has plenty of movesd to keep you busy, and she has them organized by level. I love the lessons.

Veena's lessons are fantastic for learning on your own 🙂 A great option if you live far from a studio! I find that learning at home has definitely advanced my fluidity.
The studio does have it's strong points as well. When woman get into the studio environment and start feeding off of eachother, it sometimes gives you this crazy energy buzz to try things that you didn't think you were capable of.
Either option will work 😉 whether on SV or at the studio, you're surrounded with like minded people who will give you a push if you need it. All you need to do is ask for feedback. You'll get it!
Happy poling!

Wow! I have heard of how close and helpful, this community is, but it is at this moment that I am realizing exactly how great you all are! Thank you ALL for all of the responses. It has made my choice easier to make =0)
Sair, thank you for your advice. Studios can definitely be pricey and the closest one to me is not too close. I wouldn't want to make the drive out there by myself.
I have decided to do Veena's lessons. I think that I will definitely learn a lot, especially since she has them organized from level to level. I am so excited right now!!! =0)

I personally learn better from going to class, if a decent one can be found. I own tons of DVD's and have subscribed to veena's lessons before and while they are well put together I find for me nothing replaces someone beside me telling me what to do watching me do it, make modifications ect. I would be so much farther in my poling if I had access to a studio, I travel when I can to take lessons. But different people learn better in different ways.

Awww thank you all for your wonderful support for the lessons. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif I'm so pleased your finding them helpful. I put my heart into them! Justloving, if you have questions on a particular lesson you can always leave a comment asking for help or send me an email and I will do my best to help you. Always start with the first lesson these are the "getting started" and will help you understand how to use them.
