I had superlong nails for a while and found it somewhat difficult to grip the pole, the nails hurting my hand. With shorter nails, I get a better grip. I also experimented with different shapes, square tips were the hardest, shaping them into more of a V, taking the edges off, helped my grip (and everyday life) a lot. So it’s all up to your mood, I like long nails, but there is a trade off.

I’ve had long acrylic nails since I started poling. They don’t seem to get into the way unless I somehow jam my hand between the pole and my leg which I have done lol. I know I would have better grip if I got rid of them probably but I love them too much

Mine are what I would consider medium length. While I have not stabbed myself I do know that I have ripped my nail and jammed my nail into the pole when working on new stuff. I would think that as ing as they are not obnoxiously long you should be fine.

I tend to keep mine a bit long, and it’s usually cool. The only bigger issues are that when I’m coming from a climb to a sit, the nails of my lower hand become squeezed by my top arm which ends up on top of them. That, and the scratching on my thigh that I sometimes get when I go from a scorpio to a TG Aysha (or similar).

Depends mostly on nail length, hand size, and pole diameter. If you have long nails, larger hands, and a 40mm pole, you’re gonna have a bad time. If your grip feels like it’s pushing on your nails/pressing your nails into the nail bed, I would say go shorter. You can do damage to your nail beds over time with repeated trauma. You can do a lot of really cute stuff with a little bit shorter of a mani!

I have always had long nails but I started keeping them shorter once I started to pole. Like Chem, mine are usually kind of a medium length. If I scratch myself, it’s usually on the inside of the thigh on my outside leg hang leg. Then I file them down and start over again.

My nails grow fast, so sometimes they are medium length or long, but usually I try to keep them short if I’m poling a lot. I’ve ripped my skin pretty good a few time with long nails. Usually along the thighs as others mentioned. 🙂

My nails grow super fast too. They Generally don’t bother me, but I try to keep them medium or shorter. I have certainly tore myself up with them at times such as learning machine gun.

Personally, mine stay shorter because they get broken a lot, but as a teacher who has been stabbed and cut when I’ve spotted students with long nails, I say short! 🙂
