    I’m currently 38 weeks pregnant with my second child. I didn’t immediately stop poling as soon as I got pregnant, but I did stop when I was about 16 weeks along. My body just wasn’t having it at that point. So all in all, I’d been poling for about eight months. I plan on having a natural labor/delivery with this one. That being said, when would you ladies say it’s safe to start poling again? I’ve seen everything from 6 weeks to 3 months.I would like to start sometime in January. Is that too ambitious?

    Listen to what your body tells you after your birth!! You don’t know how it will be yet!
    I had my second baby beginning of August this year and I went back to classes in September after about 5 weeks.
    I had a very easy birth though! Labour only lasted 4 hours and I was in hospital for only 1 of those, I had no tears or grazes so not much pain afterwards (not counting the evil after contractions mind!!) I felt pole helped me feel less tired withy 2nd as I was still having to get up with the eldest (who is only 19months old!) so was very unlike having your first when you could sleep when they sleep etc!! After my first it was about 10 weeks before I got into pole, I needed the extra time to heal!
    Also in those 5 week postpartum I did light gentle Pilates exercise to build up my core a bit, like you I had only managed to continue pole upto the beginning of 2nd trimester while pregnant with him but I did do light Pilates still up till he was born.
    So yeah see how it goes and how you feel and don’t rush into anything to heavy! Nothing wrong with a bit of prancing around the pole get your blood pumping! Just don’t push it!

    I think you can start whenever YOU feel your ready. I know your probably so anxious to start I could only imagine. Usually with the second child labour and healing is faster, I had both my children natural and I found my wecond not as bad as my first (labour and healing wise). Just be patient, everyone is different and theres is sooo much time to get back on the pole. I started poling after my children were born so I couldnt twll you when I started again. Dont worry the pole isnt going anywhere! If it were me though, I would probably start almost right after I had my child lol…so I know how anxious you are, and need to keep your strength.     You are both exactly right! I’ve been seriously itching to get back on my pole for the last month now. The last month seems to just creep on by! I had to take my pole down or I would have been on it everyday. Haha. My labor with my first was fairly easy and I’m hoping I’ll have the same luck this time around. I’m probably just going to put the pole up when I’m 6 weeks postpartum and slowly integrate the old moves into my daily workout routine. I’m really hoping I don’t have diastasis recti too bad this go round. Did either of you have it?

    I didn’t really suffer from bad diastasis recti with either of mine my son is 15 weeks now and my abs are completely back together with barely a gap between them! Lucky me!!
    How do you carry do you put on much extra weight?

    I had it fpr a bit but it went away when I started working out and what not. Just stay healthy and work out as much as you can!

    Exciting!!! As everyone mentioned, you’ll want to talk with your DR or midwife, and most of all listen to your body. I only poled a few times at the end of my pregnancy too, due to a move and I just didn’t have time. I did mostly walking. I went back to pole about 3 weeks after my 4th but it was a struggle. lol My mind knew what to do but the body just couldn’t cooperate, it was one of the weirdest and most frustrating feelings. So don’t feel too down the first time back if it’s rough, I recorded my first experience back if you’re interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5UhIJnX5Rw By 4 weeks I was already able to see a change, by 10 I was feeling pretty normal, except for the bigger boobs from breast feeding! lol

    If you do suffer from ab separation, avoid sit-ups. There are much safer abdominal workouts you can do standing to repair and prevent more separation.

    Ooooooo very good point about the sit ups!! They can make diastasis recti worse!

    Oh Veena that video is great! It’s very strange seeing you with a teeny belly! You look exactly how I felt on my first session back after baby although a lot more technically skilled lol!

    With this pregnancy, I carried a bit lower and I’ve gained 26 lbs. My first pregnancy, when I had diastasis issues, I gained a whole 50lbs! Perhaps that contributed to my diastasis?

    Veena, I’ve seen that video, it’s actually what made me sign up! Haha. It’s just comforting knowing that a mother can have her cake and eat it too! Lovely kids, body AND pole! I’m likely not going to try any ab workouts until I’m a month postpartum. My husband would freak out!

    Probably!! there is a correlation between diastasis severity and weight gain apparently

    Doing ab work isn’t bad there are some that can be very helpful both during and right after pregnancy! The exercises shown here are similar to the safe exercises I was talking about. I looks like there are 4 in her series.

    I think Veena should add a whole section to her website specific to post-baby body moms who pole. Your body is awesome and I want to learn EXACTLY what you did after each kid to get into poling shape! Please please? 🙂

    Thanks Smarty! I only pole danced after my last baby. It was then that I came up with my own “Veena” method of teaching and structuring pole progression, before that point everyone just taught all spins as beginner!!! After I had my baby I realized how difficult pole is for someone who was just starting. I didn’t even know about pole with my other pregnancies, I just did strength training. The biggest thing is to stay active and eat well. xoxox
