Hi everyone! 6 weeks ago I had a healthy, beautiful baby boy, and received the clear from my doctor to return to exercising on Monday. Of course I returned to the pole that night and it was terribly rough.

I know it’s only 6 weeks after delivery, but I’m really struggling with my body in terms of looks and ability. I feel so frustrated at all the things I’ve lost and having to start over again. I knew i was going to have to work to do and it wouldn’t be easy, but I don’t even feel like myself. Everything feels so foreign and disconnected. I wasn’t a spectacular poler, but I had the Ayesha and handspring and had some good strength and flexibility. I was sore for the last two days, and all I had done on Monday is some conditioning, spins and a freestyle to get moving again. (And a cool down!)

I feel so disheartened when I look at old pictures compared to where I am now. On a rational level, I know my body is amazing for giving birth, but I feel so horrible and uncomfortable in my skin right now, which destroys my motivation

To anyone whose has to start over for any reason – how did you do it? How did you keep pushing? Do you have to clear your mind of your old abilities to start fresh, or use that as motivation, knowing you did that once? I feel like everything I worked toward pre pregnancy was a waste.

Congratulations!!!! I totally understand feeling like you’re not yourself after baby. I remember my first pole session after my 4th and in my mind I could remember how to do everything, HOWEVER, my body was like no, I don’t think so. It’s like someone had removed my abdominal muscles. lol

Good news it does come back and if you are careful and don’t push too hard for some it can come back fast… if you stayed in shape while pregnant. You will get back to where you were. Things to be aware of, if you had and abdominal separation avoid pole work and exercises that heavily use the rectus abdominis (six pack), so things like sit ups and such. Do some conditioning for the abs to help strengthen the whole core and close the separation.

    Here’s my after baby video.
