Really bummed and in pain
Posted by ChevaleresseMommy on May 4, 2013 at 7:52 pmIm am so sad I was poling lastnight and felt a pop in my knee. My knees already have a few issues. So I forget sometimes I have to take it easy and pay attention to how my knees feel. So anywho I woke up and went about my day, than all a sudden I feel stiffness and pain. Look down and my knee is swelled and I also have a some fluid. Not sure how much. Have any of you other ladies had this problem? Or have bad knees and have found ways to cope? Im trying to lose weight and learn my poling. Now I have to sit and do nothing. I feel defeated because I was actually making progress and getting stronger. And say I have to have knee surgery later down the road will I still be able to pole?

Sorry you are hurt! You should visit with your doctor that has dealt with your knee issues. Maybe even show them a video so they understand what poling is. Most importantly though is to listen to your body. I know there are lots of people here who have dealt with crazy things by learning to work with their particular bodies/issues. No need to feel defeated everyone has to take breaks and you don't lose it as quick as you think. Good luck and rest up!

We have an instructor at our studio who dislocated her kneecap. She had to take time off of anything involving knees, but got right back to arm moves and simple spins. I don't know if she's on SV, but if you want her pole regimen for when she was resting her knee, I can put you in contact.

I have a bad left knee from a track & field injury in high school & it flares up & hurts when I overuse it & I end up having to let it rest & not exercise for a few days until it feels better. I do notice that it seems to flare up less if i stretch properly before all & any exercise & that sometimes wrapping it keeps me from pushing it too far.

Sorry I am a tad behind on this. I went to the doctor (Monday) and he gave me antiflamation meds and said I have runners knee(Peoria and chillicothe IL Drs. arent the best). So I have been taking it easy and kinda winging it because I really think my dr is wrong. I cant stay completely off it because I have 3 kiddos I take care of two are home full time. Anywhos Thankfully the fluid is going away. I think I may have Hyper-Extended it.
But I forgot to mention that last year in November I was at a wedding. It was time for Bouquet toss. I got the flowers but I slipped on my skirt when it went under my shoe(really slippery floor) So I ended up falling and all my weight went down on Problem Knee. I fell hard enough to leave a permanent bump in my bottom from my shoe! My dr told me not to worry. I think its time to find a different doctor becsaue he wont even refer me to a specialist (I think its time for New dr, may try Chicago dr. Heard they are good). Could a Chiropractor help with this situation?

@ https://www.studioveena.com/users/view/4e731f4e-4dd4-4a93-bc74-53190ac37250 If you could that would be so great. I don't want to do anything that can mess my knee up worse. But I want to still commit to keeping up as much as I can.
@https://www.studioveena.com/users/view/4dc9de3c-cf2c-410b-b8c3-72ab0ac37250 I mentioned pole fitness to him(Because he asked how I hurt it), he just looked dumbfounded. My town is rather small and Judgemental. I see you are from Southern Illinois. Im in Central Il. I thought working through it would be possible, but than I was like no. Thank for your kind words
@https://www.studioveena.com/users/view/5144c8a6-8008-4c57-bcaa-43ed0ac37250 Im sorry that you have to deal with that. Any pain thats constant in my book is bad. Thats awesome though that you dont let it stand in the way of your passion.
Thank You for all your input. Sorry i had to put you all in one post. I will be sure to update. Once again thanks so much for taking time to read this and throw out your advice. I appreciate it

I completely understand how you feel. Last year, I had tendonitis and had to stop poling for a while. I had just started pole strength training and had made a lot of progress but lost it all. I gained the strength back but until this day, I still have very weak wrists and have to tape them sometimes. The reason I'm saying this is yes, I know it sucks and know how it feels but something to consider is that if you don't rest you could risk hurting your knee more and you can't undo that…versus if you are temporarily set back on progress, it can always be gained back. So don't feel defeated, I'm sure everything will work out in the end.
That being said, I recently hurt my back and it hurts even to sneeze so I'm taking a rest too. You're not alone!
