@ Tovah thank you for sharing that. I can relate to you in so many ways about the whole dance issue being condemed in churches. I don't understain why some people think dance is a sin! When thats not even a BIBLICAL teaching! The church I got to is a Baptist church, love the sermons, the pastor is great, my kids love it there but the worship is very old school in the sense you dont even lift your hands to praise, let along sway your body, somehow that would be too suggestive?? HUH!?? I dont get it, but I find the other churches in my area that have a diffrent style of worship are weak on their sermons, so i stay there knowing that just about everyone there would condem me for my choice of fitness.
I mean slightly over a year ago I was about 40 pounds heavier, this is the ONE exercise that I actually enjoy and to me its even more than fitness. It's finally a way for me to have a hobby and something to be pationate about that is just for me. Before pole I was pretty boring lol, now I have a fun streak! It agravates me that people are so judgemental because it places an unfair burden on us that somehow whether we like it or not, we do in some way shape or form carry.
There is def a stigma on pole dancing from christians and non-christians a like. It's the reason that many of us take our pole down when we have certain people over the house or choose to remain silent on our passion. I highly applaud those who "just dont care" and remain trasparent in their pole dancing to everyone with the, "I see this as a form of fitness and dance if you see it in a nother light, thats on you" I would love to be that open. And you know what, perhaps just having studios like this one that we are talking about, would make me feel more empowered to have that kind of view on it. They say there is power in numbers and if I had a class to go to with all woman who had my same beliefs and convictions and remained just as open minded and passionate about pole as I am, I would feel I had an alliance behind me and would be more "in your face" with my poling lol
I also forgot to mention that to some women (although not myself) they would immediatly write off pole dancing just because of the music, so a class like this could get them in the door and see that you dont have to dance in a sexual manner, it really could be about the tricks and purely fitness! Some studios tecah all about the "inner she" and things like that which could be off putting to a Chrsitian. Like I said, it doesnt bother me but I do believe it would help more and more Christian women break out of their ridgid opionins of Pole dancing! And the more people we can get involved in pole the sooner it becomes less taboo!
and @ Charley thanks for your comments, I am slowly seeing the merge come together in my dancing. And after all this talk about this, it makes me wanna just try out dancing to a worship song, maybe ease into it with a song by Creed or something lol. It will prob be a freeing moment for me when I can do something like that, I'll have to record it and post it here when I get finally dance to a Christian song 🙂

I would like to throw in my 2 cents on this subject as well, like many of the other women here I am a practicing Christian, and not just in name either. I am also a professional aerialists and frankly i don't see the difference between performing an aerial routine, and doing a pole routine. I do a Gemini on pole, its a gazelle on silks, I do a superman on pole, it's a front support on trapeze. What's the difference?
I have performed countless aerial pieces for dozens of Churches, family events etc… yet somehow if I do a similar act on a pole it's considered "inappropriate" and "wrong"
The stereotype attached to pole is disgusting, any act can be over sexualized, it's not the equipment it's all how you intend to use it.
How I usually get around the stigma is I tell people to watch the Chinese pole act Cirque has in Saltimbanco,
It shows people that pole acts aren't just about stripping, and nobody can argue that cirque show are not family orientated.
I like the idea that this women is opening pole up to a new demographic, Christian ladies have a right to dance too, and why should strippers have all the fun?
Good on her

I would like to echo what https://www.studioveena.com/users/view/bcc86a68-d89d-11df-ab19-12313b090e12 and https://www.studioveena.com/users/view/bcc55a6c-d89d-11df-ab19-12313b090e12 had to say. A friend sent me the Youtube link a few days ago and, to be honest, I was offended. I thought it was sad the way they justified the merger of pole dancing and Christianity. The way the interview cut the piece left so much to criticize. I thought the CNN interview was much better.
My personal opinion, Pole dancing (while undoubtedly an art form and exercise) is highly sexual. I don't put on praise and worship music when having sex with my husband, nor would I when exercising on the pole. I don't criticize those of you who do so, it just doesn't work for me. I don't see how pole dancing is "for Jesus", brings you any closer to God or continues worship. Unless you approach it from the idea that "everything we do should bring glory to God". Still, for me it is more the concept of using the Pole as a method to take care of the body God has given me, staying physically fit, and enjoy the beauty/sensuality of being a woman.
That said, I believe God intended us to be sexual beings and sex should be enjoyed within the proper context (husband and wife). I find it sad that too many Christian women are uncomfortable expressing their sexuality and being sensual with their spouse.
I have always toyed with the idea of teaching a strip tease class at our annual women's retreat, but have never figured out how to sell the idea to my pastor. lol
The idea of having a class dedicated for Christian women is fantastic in the sense that (as pointed out) most Christian women are highly uncomfortable with the use of profanity in music and/or even secular music in general, and criticism of heel height and clothing. Again, I don't personally like the idea of praise and worship music. There are many Christian artists out there that never mention God or Christ or Jesus in their lyrics, but their music would put Christian women at ease rather than listening to say Beyonce' and songs that talk about shakin your booty.
I just don't like the idea/concept that Pole dancing needs to be "justified" for Christians or anyone at all, and I think the studio and interviews perpetuate that idea.

its too bad that the tv station decided to take advantage of the situation and basically turned them into the church of Spring's whores. I think it is just so sad that they used this to get watchers along with the slimy disgusting things that many say about poling. I find it disturbing when they laugh at christians who say dancing is sinful (which i no longer believe) and then laugh at them when they dance. Christianity can be a wonderful thing or a confusing one. Things like this make it harder.
I have been from the strict baptist to boys and girls cant swim in the same pool to no celebrating halloweenor having egg hunts to churchs that made huge flags and banners and and danced behind one another all around the church praising and dancing. Of course there is no way to win. Not to sound bitter but I have a bit of it to me. However I will say some of the most joyful fulfilling dancing I did was in my own living room with my 3 little girls..we called it "dancing in the spirit" and it wasn't all that tame…LOL I always felt my creator had blessed me by showing me I didn't need anyones's approval to make them and me happy and showing my own sense of worship. I am ashamed of my Houston for doing a story like this but nothing will compare to how these beautiful souls will be damaged. If I lived there I would be at the station raising hell, its not journalism its voyeurism for ratings.
Having said all that, I guess all women and people long for a way to show emotion and dance is something that belongs to everyone even though it may be very different from one person to another. I have to say I would put my pole away in certain situations not for me but for my grandchildren or my husband if it was a business situation. I generally do keep certain parts of my life because of the stigma attached including my spiritual path because of tings like this story.
I say don't pole for Jesus, a man, or anyone else but yourself unless you want to. I kinda feel honored that I don't have the same restrictions as young women with a church or kids that could suffer so I can leave my pole up and talk about it. Also I have to confess not too many on my facebook page I share it with BUT I would love to get to a point where we could. It is a beautiful artful way to express yourself. I hope one day I can tell everyone because I am really proud about it and it does such amazing things for my spirit especially considering I will wake up disabled every morning for the rest of my life and the joy of knowing I can still dance makes nothing seem impossible It so sad others chances to try this may be ruined by ignorant people.
sorry I drone on…yall probably all figured out by now I am a chatter box.
ps: I admit the heels kinda seemed weird then I asked myself do heels make feel pretty…hmmmm maybe they work the same way for these women.

Just pole dance because you want to. To me it seems like they're saying it's for Jesus so people won't judge them for pole dancing. We've all experienced judgement for going to pole fitness classes. Some people believe it's the same thing as stripping. This is their form of self-protection from being judged. They should care less what other people think and just do it for fun. It's great exercise, great self-expression, and personally I think it's art! It's beautiful! I think Jesus would be just fine with it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Yup! I think Jesus would be just fine with it too.
FYI: I would think that Jesus expects me to be sexy.
