So the reason I am such a pain regarding inversions is due to this.  These are pics of my husbands surgery from yesterday.  He tore his rotor cuff probably about 3 years ago and never let it heal properly and just continued doing damage to it until it HAD to be taken care of.  This is a 2 cm by 2.6 cm tear.  He has done damage to his bicep tendons as a result of not having proper stabilization of the arm.  Basically he has 5 posts drilled into his bone, yes drilled, as anchor points for them to sew the muscle to.  The muscle was then pushed back together and sewn shut.  He also had to have biceps tenodesis performed (Essentially a biceps tenodesis moves the attachment of the biceps tendon to a position that is out of the way of the shoulder joint.).  The pictures are kind of cool but are not for the faint of heart.

I guess the take home message is to not rush things and take to heart Veena's shoulder stabilization lessons.  He will be in a sling for at least 6 weeks and out of commission for up to 6 months.  Luckily he has short term disability at work or we would be looking at several months of one income.

I have to admit I wasn't exactly sure what i was looking at in those photos, but nonetheless thank you for sharing!! Definitely a reminder to take things slow / not overdo it and give our bodies the chance to fully recover when we are injured.

I wish him a speedy recovery!

Wow, thank you for sharing. I have irritation in my left cuff on some days and this definitely scared me out of over working the muscles. Blood and guts, brain matter, don’t scare me. Muscle tears? Make me cringe.

Of course the pictures loaded backward because I loaded them from start to finish…ugh.

First pic is the damage that was done to his biceps due to not resting and letting the shoulder heal.  If you look at the pic you will see white fibery tissue…that is NOT normal and is damaged/shredded tendon.

Second pic is the biceps pic unzoomed.  You can see it marked as shredded bicep.  The one next to it is with the surgical tool inserted into the tendon and the next 2 are what it look like now that they released it.

Third pic is his tear after being sewn up, 2 different views.  You can see the thread cris crossing across the picture.  That is the repair.  Those threads are attached to the posts that were drilled into his bone.

4th pic is the tear.  The darker area is the valley between the sections of the tear.  The white V section is supposed to be attached to the pinik v section above it.  You will see that they match up after he is sewn together.

The last picture shows what the tear looks like after repair and from a different angle.

Thank you all for the well wishes.  And please, please, please, listen to your bodies.

I just had that surgery about six weeks ago and it was not related to pole dancing, it was related to cortisone shots that I had from a previous injury. I had to have four surgeries within seven years. This is not a fun thing to deal with at all,I had bicep tendon disease, torn rotor cuff t,labrial fray, scar tissue, bone spur, and burcitis, sorry if my spelling is not all correct. I do blame all of this on cortisone. Rehab is going well but sleep is hard, I'm taking it slow and steady, can't wait to get back to my pole, I miss working out, this is the first time I got depressed.I'm coming out of the funk with the progress of P.T.

    Ouch!

I tore my rotator cuff when I was about 14…and ohmygod ouch.

They wanted to operate on it, but luckily because I was young I was able to heal with a LOT of physio and rehabilitation. (over a number of years…)

Thanks for sharing – I think this is a solid reminder to LISTEN to your body and don't do anything you're not ready for yet! Hope he gets better soon!

This is familiar! We still have a DVD ROM with pictures from hubby's *three* rotator cuff surgeries. He, for once, wasn't too stubborn to go in to a doctor right away; he went right after the car he was going to work on fell off a hoist smack onto his shoulder.

He was the shop manager and top producer at the auto shop he worked at and the person who had done maintenance on the hoist overlubricated it and left something undone. It will *never* heal to 100%, or even 90% of his range of motion. He also can't lift some of our daughter's toys with that arm, much less our daughter and that's rough on him.

My addendum to Chem's story is don't think you can injure your rotator cuff as an adult and spring right back. Even if you do get medical attention right away, keep in mind that tendons, ligaments, and cartilage do not get as much blood flow–they will heal slowly and not as well. Be careful ladies, and gents, so you can keep those impressive feats coming 😛 lol 🙂

Just read on facebook that Felix is out and going to be out for some time due to a rotator cuff injury that she needs to have operated on:

I wish that I was! I am injured – I have to have some surgery so will not be there ;(

rotator cuff work related injury but still… invasive surgery and long recovery
