Posted by Pssst Little Kitty on December 15, 2013 at 10:39 amJust wondering how many pole peeps out there cross train in something? Be it weight lifting, cardio, sprinting, yoga, etc… Aaaaand would you say it helps you in pole?

I run, and I would say pole helped the running! The extra strength and flexibility from pole helped with some nagging long term running injuries (IT band). I recently started weight training and it is helping with pole. I can do more on my weak side since it’s getting less weak.

I weight train, do cardio and yoga; all of which help with pole!

I haven’t been poling long. But i do find cross training helpful. I do pilates, weights and Zumba

I do some weight training when I can (nothing major, though, I don’t do conventional gyms), I also do a lot of rock climbing- that definitely helps! Grip strength, shoulders, chest, back, and legs. It’s an awesome workout.
I’ve also been sort of waiting for the weather to get a little better (Please please please!) so that I can go outside and start hooping again… and spinning my staff, and my poi! I’m not sure if they’ll help with pole, but… it’s movement and I consider that a good thing.
I’m hoping to get into yoga soon, too! -
At any given time I do some yoga, weight training, cardio like running or DVD workouts, rock climbing (rarely) and the occasional obstacle course race–virtually any kind of activity. I think they all help each other and I think variety is very good for overall fitness. What I don’t do as much as I should is flexibility training. I very occasionally do Felix Cane’s flexibility DVD but it’s hard to expect results when it’s only once every few weeks!

Hula hooping is actually good training too! When I hoop off the body, on legs, arms, wrists it strengthens those areas. It’s been great for my shoulders and wrists. When I hoop on my body is great cardio!

Nice guys… I strated noticing that all tho I’m naturally strong there are just some moves that are hard to do. My pole instructor literally just deadlifts herself all over, around, on and off the pole, it amazes me!!!! Cross training of any kind def helps I think. And for miss grayeyes, my life revolves around getting my splits its so hard to do flex train, so much dedication. Hully hooping would prob be a great way to warm up for that @veena & @rune thanx for the idea!

Yep – I do weights, martial arts, and lyra. Mind you, the MA and weights was long before pole, and in the beginning pole was my ‘cross train’ – now it is my initial exercise (well, tied with MA).

I started doing T25 a while ago and within like 1 week I noticed ridiculous core strength improvement. Every thing helps everything else. It also gives your body a chance to rest when you just focus one muscle group as opposed to the overall training that pole gives!

I had done 5 years of strength training before pole came along, and I really recommend it. I could do a V-invert, air invert and a shoulder mount on my first try, it was awesome! 🙂 I’ve started doing more and more pole while just trying to maintain my strength in other areas, especially in the legs since pole doesn’t do much for lower body strength. My next challenge is to seriously start doing more flexibility work.

I try to go to hot yoga once a week. I used to run and that helped so much for my cardio and endurance but i havent been running consistently and i can definitely tell a difference with my pole endurance (I tend to get out of breath more quickly now). I really don’t want to start running right now because of the cold, it makes my asthma go crazy, but I plan on running more when the weather warms up. I’ve recently started doing bodyweight exercises (the ZWOW workouts on YouTube) a few times a week and it has helped with my triceps and other “pushing” muscles in my upper body which I had neglected. It has also replaced my running a little because its like interval training and plyometrics (explosive jumps and stuff) depending on the workout.

Here’s a good example of cross training with the hoop! These tricks would strengthen the hands, wrists, forearms, and even shoulders!

I love cross training! I try to hit the gym for cardio and weight training 1-2 times a week. I also try to do some yoga, acro yoga, hula hooping, swimming, hiking and the occasional special thing like rock climbing. Not all at the same time mind you. I find that any fitness activity helps other fitness activities.
I also found that just my normal stretching I do after hitting the gym helped me get my left side splits! I wasn’t training for them but I always stretch after the gym and that regular stretching has seen huge growths in my flexibility overall! -
When I started polling 6 months ago my arms were so weak that couldn’t even lift my self on the pole.Everything was a struggle at the first few lessons in the studio. Next week I started cross fit training once per week and that helped me tremendously! I also do http://www.bodyrock.tv training which I highly recommend. Have never been stronger in my life, but still have a long way to go as my butterfly is still pretty wobbly lol
