I was practicing climbing yesterday and was allowing myself to drop back to the ground quite fast between sets, so I decided to actually try a real drop for the first time. I couldn't find a tutorial or description anywhere, so I'm not sure I was doing it right though. Is the Sad Girl Drop essentially just starting in upright crucifix and finishing in a pole sit with both legs tucked and the body hugging the knees? Thanks!

Yeah that's the only video I was able to find, so I tried to copy what she was doing. =)

We do it slightly differently – start from a drama queen:

Hold the pole with the arm that is far away from in for security (but not to tight – you want to drop!), and release your thigh hold. Squeeze your thighs again to stop your fall in mid-air.

Ah, so you start and end in the same tucked position then. The name definitely makes more sense that way. It didn't seem particularly sad to drop from crucifix to pole sit! Thanks! =)

I've been tempted to try this for a while but I don't know if I'd catch myself!
Found this video of it on pole dance dictionary too http://poledancedictionary.com/moves/119/hip-lock-drop/

Yes, this is the move 🙂

I find it harder to let go and drop than to catch myself…

LillyBilly, I have the same problem with jade drop! As for the sad girl drop, I went to a workshop with Jenyne Butterfly, and she said the secret is to make your legs more parallel with the pole to drop, and tilt the, back to the usual angle to stop. I still can't do it, but I'm closer with that tip. 🙂
