Serious bruising
Posted by Later on December 31, 2010 at 12:06 amHeey guys, I know that everyone bruises when they begin pole dancing, but how do you know when bruising is becoming too much? My friend and I pole the same amount make the same mistakes however she has about 4 bruises and I have about 20 on each leg, not joking. Many of them are small and hardly noticeable but I have massive bruising on my thighs from doing pole sits a couple times and planks moves a couple of times. I am starting to worry, I am not going to pole until my bruises clear up and I have started taking multivitamins, Vit C, magnesium, and i have invested in some arnica gel. I am still a little bit worried. Is there any one else out there who has had SERIOUS bruising?? from just doing pole sits etc. I dont know how to add image or i would but please someone whos gone through this terrible bruising please let me know.

The bruising is very normal and from what I know even the most advanced & professional polers still get bruises, its just a part of poling. However, extensive bruising may mean you may need to have your iron levels checked. Sometimes anemia can be the cause of extensive brusing.

Aye, I still bruise like my boyfriend just beat the crap out of my inner thighs xD You could always ask your doc about an iron def ( I have one ) but the bruising is normal and nothing to worry about :]

By my third day of dancing, I had massive black bruises on my thighs from practicing a pole sit. You are not alone! In fact, I had to stop for about three or four days because they hurt so much. With time, you'll bruise less, but every time you try a new move, expect more bruises! I have a huge shiner under my left knee as we speak!

heey guys, Thanks for messaging me back =) Yes I am assuming that I have low iron or something. It just doesnt make sense to me that my girl friend has hardly any bruises but I am covered. I havent been able to practice anything to do with between my thighs because of the extensive bruising. I am going to take a picture and post it to my profile so that you guys can check it out if you want to see. It has improved though since I haven't done any inbetween the leg moves in about 4 days however they are still very sore and UGLY haha. I can't wait to be able to practice my pole sit again though. Its soooo irritating to not be able to do moves!

Hi ! I have a low iron def too and my bruising is pretty bad! I also have big bruises on my inner thighs from sitting and doing the plank. Some girls don't bruise as much. From what I have heard bruising will go away with practice. I am hoping that is the case. I guess all we can do is be patient…and pole..I feel equally riritaded that I can't pole till they sort of go away.. 🙁

Hi Peppi Angel, yah I feel for you as well, it does suck not being able to do moves because of bruising. What I think it is that my friend does bruise however her bruises just dont show up. She said that it feels like she has bruises all over her legs but she just doesnt have the ugly marks. It may be true considering we have been tanning for equal time but her skin is alot different from mine as she has a full on tan and I am only a shade darker! And I think its from the brozer accelerator I use

Some of the girls on this site have recommended using topical arnica which can be purchased from your local walgreens or cvs. I've never used it personally, however I've been researching things lately to help ease bruising for my students. One of the nurses I work with uses it all the time and said it works wonderfully for her. She said she mainly uses it for muscle soreness. Arnica can actually have multiple uses:
"Arnica montana is commonly used in herbal ointments and oils applied on the skin as an anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving agent for aches, http://www.healthline.com/adamcontent/bruise, and http://www.healthline.com/adamcontent/sprains on unbroken skin.

Healthline.com – Connect to Better Health "Another over the counter remedy I found during my research was Dr. Holmquist Bruise Relief Gel which can be found at Walgreens. I don't know anyone who has used this but the reviews I have read online have been positive. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

Yes Kobajo84 it really works! I forgot to mention that! U still bruise of course it just helps them go away quicker. I just ordered 10 tubes of arnika from the net (it's much cheaper than it is here in Greece even including the shiping!) I have tried a couple of brands and the best by far is a brand from the chez republic, it's a bit smelly but it really works! I'll let know know more info once they arrive! Hopefully soon!

Ok, don't laugh, but the best stuff I have ever found for bruises(and I am talking REAL bruises, total pole dancing war scar type bruises), is hemorrhoid cream. It makes bruises that would last weeks normally disappear within days. My hip and upper thigh had the worst bruise that anyone at my pole studio had ever seen on it and within a week all that was left of it was an outline. Normally bruises last weeks on me, and bad ones longer but the over the counter supermarket brand hemorrhoid cream made this really terrible one disappear really fast. It was really bad, when doing stretching exercises in a class I turned side on and the instructor saw it for the first time when it was 2 days old and she screamed out "Oh my God!!" and said it was the worst that she had ever seen and called in the other 3 instructors working there at the time to see it because she had never seen one like it. I LOVE hemorrhoid cream now and will always have some in the cupboard! I only applied it once a day too which makes it even more amazing.

madfelice- thanks for mentioning this! arnica has never worked for me so i’m eager to try something else. I bruise way too much and my bruises last very long as well. I’m so excited, hopefully it works for me.
