Shoes… which shoes to choose or lose? ;)

Any good advice out there regarding choosing pole dancing shoes?

What kind of information are you specifically looking for?
Starting out I would look for shoes that have straps and that are not too high. Stay away from anything that has metal or rough things on the tops as they will mess with your grip and scratch the pole. Same goes for fabric and lack of grip. Boots can be fun but the stretchy ones tear easily. Also you can easily get stuck on the pole if the boots are too grippy. A larger base for the heel for stability when starting out if possible. None of the companies guarantee their shoes so if you ruin them they are done. Ellies tend to run wider than Pleasers.

Those are brands. Pleasers & Ellies are pretty pricey even for plain platforms its $50+. I have 4 pair of funtasma platforms(do a google search, I believe funkypair.com sells them) the are about $10-15 cheaper. I only have 1 pair of pleasers that cost me a pretty penny & that pair has diamonds/rhinestones all over them. I havent even danced in them yet! I like the pleaser brand, they make some really nice shoes but I only buy them every once in a while as a special treat. 🙂 The funtasmas I use for my weekly poling. HTH.

Slightly more technical question 😉 Anyone know what size of Pleaser I should go for? I have relatively broad feet – don't like my toes being squashed to death. I wear a size 7.5 (UK) running shoe/flat casual shoe. I think the last pair of heels I bought (and not a very high heel) were size 6.5/7. The other week I tried on a random platform/killer heel (they were super ugly – just for size LOL) and I found size 7 was quite loose – my foot slipped – and size 6 was tight around my toes. xx

Hi, In my experience Pleasers run a size small. So a size 8 fits like a size 7.I don't buy my shoes comfortable, because as you dance in them they stretch out. So if I suffer a little bit I get a little more time out of my shoes. Also the platforms are much easier on your feet. A 2" platform on 5 inch heels, is more like a 3" heel with no platform… ( your kind of tricking the balls of your feet.) If your going to be spending a lot of time in them.. it helps. But the platform part of the toe(tiipy toe) can be slippery to you at first ( if you do floor work and are getting back up) Also the no skid sticker is advisable for the bottom of the shoes, if your going on stage with them. I would not recommend for your floor at your house , If you like your floor . I hope that helps. You can find pleasers on sale quit often at certain online stores.I just bought a pair for $30 with shipping at Electric Botique . (They have a great last pair sale section.)

If you have wider feet you may want to try Ellie's… general consensus seems to be that Pleasers run small/narrow. I'm a small US size 6 and wear I'm a 5 in Ellie's and a 6 in Pleasers. If you're in between sizes I would size up for Pleasers and down for Ellie's.
And yes, the plastic parts will stretch a bit… I bought my first pair of Pleasers in a 7 since the 6s felt a bit tight, but after wearing them 2 or 3 times they were really hard to dance in. A tighter shoe will feel a lot more secure when dancing… if my shoes are even slightly loose I feel like I'm one misstep away from a broken ankle lol, plus it leads to that unattractive toes-hanging-over thing.
If you can, try to get into a local retailer for dancewear and try on a pair of each brand just to see how they fit.

BTW, Funtasma are made by Pleaser. They are their cheap costume line of shoes.
Keep an eye on ebay for shoes…I have bought a few pair for not a whole lot of money. I also know that some pole studios are sellers of either Ellie or Pleaser and many times can get you shoes at cost or little above cost.

Hey guys, I've fit a lot of girls for shoes. Generally speaking, Pleasers run more narrow and Ellies are better for a wider foot; however, within the two brands they each have particular shoes that almost have their own sizing system lol (e.g., there is a pair of Ellies that run extremely narrow see here http://www.houseofcherry.com/athena/). Sometimes going up a size will help with a wide foot, it is all a case by case basis, but most people have good luck with either brand after they've stretched them out, etc. Always rememeber: if a shoe doesn't fit at first, YOU MUST BREAK THEM IN! It's so important, especially with closed toed options.

I wear a half size in shoes but I see that pole dancing shoes only come in whole sizes. Should I size up or down?
Brand new, open-toed pole dancing shoes run a bit more narrow than normal; however, once broken in, they conform to the shape of your foot and will stretch out as you wear them more and more. When purchasing any open-toed shoe, we always suggest our customers to size down; for example, if one normally wears a 7 1/2 shoe size, size down to a 7. For closed-toed options (such as boots) we suggest sizing up.
I own a pair of "street" shoes that have platforms like pole dancing shoes. Can I wear these to dance in or are there any differences between pole dancing shoes and regular "street" platform shoes?
In a word, yes! Pole dancing shoes were made for, well, dancing. The main differences between street shoes and pole shoes are as follows: the entire footbed of pole shoes are heavily cushioned, making them a lot more comfy to walk and dance in for long periods of time; there is a "swoop" on the platform of pole shoes making them easier to slide, drag and pivot on; pole shoes have a special type of rubber on the bottoms so they don't cause the dancer to slip uneccessarily; the plastic that pole shoes are made of make it easier for the dancer to stick to the pole during tricks; and finally, the heel and the platform of pole shoes are made to create an attractive arch in the foot while still making it comfortable for the dancer to wear for long periods of time.
I am new to pole dancing. What shoe do you recommend for me?
House of Cherry is partial to pole dance shoes because of their comfort and hotness factor – that being said, new pole dancers should consider a few things when purchasing their first pair of pole shoes. We recommend purchasing a pair of shoes with an ankle strap (anything that is not a mule, which is a strapless shoe that you simply slide your foot into). The ankle strap will help keep the shoe on your foot while walking, spinning and performing tricks. Additionally, we recommend a 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 inch heel – going higher than this will make it significantly more difficult to walk in as your center of gravity changes the higher the heel.
Other than that, the sky's the limit! The beauty of pole shoes is that you can go as wild and fun or as demure and simple as you like while still remaining inside a decent budget. Good luck and have fun on your new pole journey, you're in for a great time!
