Shorts for larger hips?
Posted by Runemist34 on March 28, 2013 at 1:44 amHey everyone!
So, after seeing myself in my video camera, and taking careful stock of my pole shorts, I have found that my shorts are quite inadequate. I require new ones.
However, I have large hips! They're 40 inches at last measure. I'm very "hourglass shaped" and it's caused issues for me in the past…
Do you have any recommendations? I don't need them to be high-waisted (though I don't want them to be almost-not-there either!), but I would like them to cover more than half of my rear, and provide some coverage between my legs, so I'm not giving everyone a good look of which panties I'm wearing that day!
I have found a couple of possibles, but I would love to hear about your recommendations and reviews!

Do they have DOTS in BC? I LOVE the "boy shorts" I got there. Stretchy, designs and solids, hot colors, and super super cheap. I'm wearing a pair in the only video I have up on this site. I am EXACTLY 40 around the hips, just measured this morning because I'm tracking for fitness/weight loss progress, so thats how they look on my butt lol.
I also usually buy a pair of black, white, and ruffles from Party City around Halloween. They're just really cheap, they aren't as soft or good quality as DOTS but they work and are great for under skirts.
I tried some cheap ones from Target that were cute teal and purple, but the XL must be juniors sizes or something because they will not go on or cover anything at all.
I would like shorts that will cover the butt and NOT have a lot of extra fabric in front. So often the back of the cheaper shorts sit where I want, but the front either bunches or pulls up to my belly button which is not cute on me at all.
I do love boy shorts with higher cut legs in the front, you have to get just the right fit, but they look awesome. I've never poled in (or worn in public) a bikini, but I have one for "someday when" and the wide belted bottom looks really good on me. I wish I could find a matching tankini top to cover the tummy until I can go for the halter I picked to go with the bottoms.
Good luck, I'll be watching this thread since we have the same measurements and I want more cute butt stuff too lol!

I'm not the same size as you, but I'm hippy (10 inch difference between my waist and hips.) I have a pair of Under Armor compression shorts that actually make pretty good pole shorts. I got them for running but also use them for pole and yoga. They're plain black and not very sexy, but they do the job and they cover my butt enough to wear outdoors.

D Luxx- I'm 5'7" I believe. Unfortunately, we don't have a DOTS here, and I can't seem to find anything good on the website (if I'm looking at the right website!). I'm thinking I may have to order online, because the only dance store here in Nanaimo is where I got my last (and only) pair of shorts, and… well, as I said, they don't do the job properly. That store is more geared toward tiny ballerinas, not curvy pole dancers!
PortableNinja- I also have a 10 inch difference between my waist and hips! It's very difficult to find clothing… especially pants!
I do actually have a pair of under-armour shorts, but the're not as short as I need them to be. I might go and look around at the place I got my under-armour (I also have a shirt) and see if they have shorter shorts than I've got. I do love them!It seems like Nanaimo has an unfortunate dearth of good pole shorts… I assume this is because most stores think Nanaimo is fairly boring, and I don't think they're wrong. Some of us just want some sexy little shorts! Blargh!
Anyways… anyone know of some good online stuff I could peruse?

Hmmmm… I never know what’s available here and not in Canada. Etsy has a lot of custom bottoms. They can be pricey, but such awesome stuff. I love ebay for cheap dancewear, but always look at seller feedback before you buy. I’ve gotten some shorts from Spencer’s before, but the sizing will make one feel like a whale, 1x or more fits, and so often things are “one size fits all” or “only available in s/m” Ummmmmmm…

Found these by googling “Booty Shorts Canada” lol, they’re really cute though! http://www.stilleagle.com/magento/nomads-hempwear-soy-womans-pants-1.html

Hey! My boutique fits ladies of all shapes and sizes and these shorts are THE BEST at fit, comfort, style and they smooth you out kinda like shapewear:

Actually, I was looking at those shorts before! Unfortunately, shape wear tends to roll and move funny on me, and just does not stay where it should. Not a whole lot to “shape” anyways, as most of it is just that my hips are large. But, I may try them anyways! They do look cute!

Believe it or not, these babies stay in place with no muffin top or rolling. They're pretty amazing. 🙂
