Should I get TG or Brass? :(
Posted by Feed Stacy Tacos on January 13, 2012 at 12:43 amHey everyone!
Sooo, I thought I was going to get TG for my first pole, but now it's out of stock on xpole website…sooo while snooping around, I now kind of want a brass pole. But then I looked at some threads here on the site about the Xpole Brass pole and there seem to be a lot of mixed reviews, ie, xpole brass poles are not the best brass poles on the market.
I am a beginner (taking classes at a studio), but I would love to own my own at home. I don't stick very well to Chrome, which is why I was looking at TG or Brass. I do know that TG will wear off eventually, but is it still sticky or does the stickiness wear away with the coating? And since brass is a soft metal, does it get bent/dinged a lot?
If anyone who has owned both an xpole TG and brass pole could give me their insight I would really appreciate it. Thanks, loves! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I have tried both and I own xpole brass myself. for beginner to intermediate level I was in love with the pole that slightly slick (like chrome) cause u spin on the pole a lot. but now I'm in advance level and I work easier with sticker pole like brass. (TG is def sticker than chrome but still not that sticky, the brass even thou its sticky but its not to the point that you can't spin on it) the xpole brass is coated yet the coating will be lasting for 10 20 years. its not coming off that easily if you worry about that.
If your body is always warm it kinda help the grip i think. but my body gets cold easily so I need grippy pole like brass 🙂 The TG not enough for me. all these just personal experience.

My TG xpole is slippery and the coating has worn off to the chrome! I would def get brass if I had to do it over again

The titanium is NOT a coating over chrome. Titanium is naturally a silvery color. In order for the gold color to come out an electrical current is passed through the metal and the top layer is oxidized…think rust on a car. All you have done is removed this light surface coloration. You have not removed the titanium. We have all seen the jewelry…no one ever thinks it is the same stuff:

Here is more info if you would like to read about it:

I would muc prefer if XPole just offered a titanium pole and got rid of the coloring.

I want that pink ring. It would go well with the balls on my bar and my pink stone…..

Stacey, I have a 50mm TG xpole and even though it is grippier, it still has it days of feeling like I'm on chrome. Although I have practiced and accomplished a lot on it. I recently ordered a 45mm TG chrome (don't know why I got chrome) and keep going back and forth between the two. Depending on weather and my skin determines which one I have up, but I want the 45mm all the time. So I put the 45mm chrome up again and going to practice with it consistently. If I'm still not happy in few months I'll sell it and get 45 TG.
In other words, be prepared that there may be some days where it feels like the TG isn't doing its grippy job, but I do LOVE it and it is different than chrome.
Good luck! I remember when it was time to replace my Lil Mynx, it was difficult making the decision.

I have BOTH at TG xpert and a platinum stages brass. The TG is NOT like brass. It is stickier than stainless steel, but not nearly as grippy as brass. The TG does give some pretty decent pole burn though. My PS brass is sooooo grippy, but the pole burn isn't too bad (it does give some pretty good caulousing though…it's weird to describe the grip. It's grippy without being overly sticky.)
The difference between the PS brass and the x pole brass (and stainless for that matter) is that the PS brass (and SS) are POLISHED metal, wheras the x pole brass (and SS) are BRISHED. Polished metal sticks better; brushed seems to be slicker from what the girls on here have said (it seems to be unanimous.) There is even a video someone posted where her vinyl boots wouldn's stick to her stainless steel x pert it was so slick.
If you want bomb grip, the best you could go with is a polished brass pole: either platinum stages (50, 45, soon to have 38mm), pole danzer (only comes in 50mm), or action poles (only comes in stationary, has 50 and 38mm.) I suggest going with a 1 piece if you can do it (and it SHOULD be cheaper than a TG or brass x pert if you go with platinum stages and it is the standard 8 – 9 feet.)
Now if you want just a little bit more grip then a TG will give you that, but it may not be much (I haven't danced on a chrome, so I don't know how much more of a grip it has than a chrome, but a TG is definitely grippier than a polished stainless.)

Oh, btw, I had my x pert for less than 9 months and noticed the TG coating wearing off at the base of my adjuster cover…
If you DO decide on an x pert, I suggest you go with the 45mm. There have been so many issues cropping up with the 50s.
Good luck!

I was going to suggest buying the shortest extension piece on both materials but I see that X does not make a 125 brass extension. Boo. This would have been a cheap way to check out both finishes.

OMG…and I just noticed your screen name….AWESOME!!!!

Thanks so much everyone for the insight! My boyfriend said he would just go ahead and order the brass for me as a late Christmas present. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif No complaints from him there! lol
I'll let everyone know how my progress goes. I fear a pole addiction coming on! hahaha
btw, I <3 this community! so supportive, yayyy! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I have both the xpole brass and tg. I live in a cold climate, have dry skin, and rarely sweat. The TG is my favorite finish out of any finish. I can grip even when my skin is cool.
The Brass didn't work for me at all. I could grip with my hands if they were really hot, but that was it. My legs and body didn't work with that finish.
I suggest thinking about your climate and skin type. If you tend to sweat more go with brass, if you tend to be cold and dry get the TG. TG in a warm climate is a skin ripper, but I love it.

Veena, I’m kind of like a reptile. My body is cold if it’s cold outside and likewise, my body gets hot only if my environment is hot or after a substantial amount of time when working out. My skin is normal to dry and I live in california so it’s not very humid here at all. And I think I sweat a normal amount. I notice that with the chrome, I keep having to wipe my hands a bit too often than I’d like. Given that, which would you say is better for me? Thanks!

I get sweaty palms a lot so brass suits me GREAT. I slip right off the xpole brass (spray on finish) or chrome, it's just not fun at all. My proper brass new pole is amazing, I never have to wipe my hands or worry about them. Sometimes my legs are a bit slick on the pole, but a bit of Itac4 behind the knees and on the calves helps with that 🙂
